Help me spend $2,500.00, and I'll send you a gift card

Thread Starter

I am looking to order a custom configured gaming PC online this weekend. I don't have the knowledge or interest unfortunately to build it out on my own. I used LuComputers in the past and this is the best configuration I could get in my budget online, but as some other members in this forum mentioned -- I'm paying too much for what I'm getting:

If I buy any of your configurations, I'll send ya a $50.00 gift card of your choice for the help :-)

This is the system I'm currently configuring:
Configured PC

And I want to buy this card to put in there (not offered on Lu):

Total Price: $2388 (my budget is $2,500.00 max)

Please help me, I'm a noob these days :-). Some have recommended Ibuy/CyberPower/Digital Storm instead, but I wasn't able to configure anything even close in performance at the same price...even though I was told that the above configuration is overpriced.

I'm a graphics professional who likes PC gaming as well (Call of Duty, Crysis 2, Battlefield, Oblivion, etc.) and am running at 2560x1440 on a 27" monitor.

Thanks all,
Dan P.

Alot of people on here are going to tell you to build your own, you will save yourself alot of money, and it is very very simple. Also, you should go with an i7-2600K since you are a graphics person. It is a better chip than the 960.

EDIT: Are you in the US?

"LuComputers" is way overpriced... I don't live in the US but I'm sure someone can recommend a good website.

I would do something like this: http://www.lucomputers.com/site/view...de=57914837&19

And then buy the 3GB GTX580 you want and install it. The Z68 onboard video using the SB integrated might actually be helpful depending on the kind of graphical work you do.

Also, I would suggest this 3GB 580 over the reference model since the prices are so close: 580 Lightning Extreme

the 2600k will be a better processor option for you. As far as i can tell, there doesnt seem to be that option on the site. As for RAM, as a graphics designer, you will probably want 16 gigs as you will deal with multiple layers. This isnt really a problem, as DDR3 RAM is ridiculously cheap right now. If it isnt an option, get the cheapest RAM available from the site, buy 16 gigs of ripjaws X RAM off of newegg for cheap and just install that.

As for GPUs, you will want a GPU with 2 gigs vRAM or more. Your choices should be between dual Radeon 6970s or dual GTX 580 3 gigs.

Power supply should be a reliable ~850 watt unit for this configuration, look at the corsair AX series.

Harddrives depend on your preferences, but i am partial to a 128 gig SSD + 4 Samsung F3s in RAID 10, for data storage with redundancy while still retaining speed.

LuComputers seems to be terribly overpriced, if you are set on not building it yourself, cyberpowerpc or ibuypower would be better options.

haha, it seems like I'm getting that a lot -- I'm definitely not set on Lu, but just couldn't seem to configure anything on other sites cheaper. Then again, I'm no pro at this :-)
