Is this normal? (wavy/jaggy edges in games)

Thread Starter
I'm relatively new to playing recent games at maximum settings at 1080p and have noticed a lot of jaggy/wavy lines in most of the games I play.

I'm just checking to see if its normal to see these lines; I know AA is supposed to improve this, but I usually have it turned all the way up and still notice them. They change in appearance depending on how close I am to them or my angle.

Here is an example, the left side of the frame of the door:

Just find it strange as this doesn't happen in older games e.g. UT 2004.

I can't see the pic.

4x AA and 1080p usually means minimal jaggies.

Looks normal...

usually object far in the scene are jagged.

Jaggies are produced when higher resolution texture is rendered at lower resolution.

Far object are small(or we see them small becasue they subtend a small angle on retina ) so texture is highly reduced in resolution and jaggies are produced.

Try 8x AA.Force 8xAA via Nvidia control panel.

Post 1080p pics if you can.It will help us to help you.

Ohh they are full res.My bad

Ahh, that makes sense. So in theory, if you were to match the res of your monitor to the original res of the game textures, there would be far less jaggies?

I'll try forcing through nvidia control panel and see if it makes a difference.

Yeah.

As you increase the resolution jaggies count decreases.

For me performance difference between 4x and 8x isn't much(as compared to 0x vs 2x vs 4x) usually because the algorithm doesn't find much jaggies to fix AFAIK.
