Windows 7 + Nvidia drivers, doing what it pleases?

I've noticed this problem a few times now in the past week or so. If I disable SLI, Enable SLI, crash the drivers OC'ing, reboot the computer etc I end up with a different version about 50% of the time.

I have ONLY installed 285.38 on this computer and this installation of windows 7. Right after I installed that it showed 280.26. So I removed it and installed again, this time it showed up correctly. Did some benching etc, then today I go to load BF3 beta and it tells me I have 266.58 installed! Lo and behold, there it is 266.58. I never installed that one, but it sure was being used. So I removed that, installed 285.38 AGAIN, reboot, and now I'm apparently running 270.61.

What is going on with this thing? Anyone else have windows randomly installing drivers, I'll assume through auto-update?

Forgot to mention, the other thing that seems to set it off is going between 2 displays and 1 display.

Did you install your drivers on your boot/OS drive?
You should uninstall all of your Nvidia drivers, then reboot, go to thier site and download install the latest for your GPU.

Err.. thats what I did. I just did an experiment, plugging in my second screen causes it to revert to 266.58 instantly. Not sure whats causing it to try to use the 270 series driver.
