1280x1024 I assume. In any case, scrap the APU and get an Athlon II/Mobo combo. There's a few up there for a decent price. Use the money you save to get a stronger GPU.

If you were choosing APU, don't just get DDR3-1600, make sure to get dual channel memory. This will near-double the effective bandwidth and very significantly increase performance along with speed. Going with single channel would be a more significant hit on APU performance than RAM speed.

Actually $400 (not counting OS) can get you a low end AM3+ PC, quad core + 6770:
$400 budget - Socket AM3+ - Prowess Entra- Low-budget quad core + HD 6770 gaming rig, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD
NEWCUSTOMER10 coupon - $10 off [Newegg] (use it if you can)

$383 shipped

Pretty sure increase in performance with that setup is hit and miss.
Probably more miss. Especially in very demanding games.

i3-2100 + H61 would cost the same and be much faster than the suggested 955.

just overhauled my setup on the first post

contains dual channel 1600, new am3+ mobo, a athlon II x3 that can be unlocked into a phenom II x4, and a better video card while only increasing price by like $3

A chip that will unlock might be unlikely nowadays.
Have you considered used parts?

with the mystery of bulldozer going around, im still staying amd cuz i just don't like intel for the same reasons i don't like apple (fanboyism lol). obviously my rig says intel, but thats a p4 so it emphasizes why i think intel sucks lol (even though its actually holding up pretty good).

obviously, the next level of efficiency wasn't really seen with bulldozer when compared to before, but it basically means that we now get:

PHENOM II X8!!!

recent reviews are praising the unlock rate so im confident even though i have the worst gambling luck lol

if it doesn't, im jumping to bulldozer when it comes out, if official reviews still show it sucking, at least phenom II x6 will be cheaper
