VRAM is super fast for a reason - it has to buffer whole frames and chuck them out as fast as it can. Transferring data that is so critically dependant on latency between two cards involves more processing than most people think.

VRAM 'sharing' won't happen for a long time, if at all.

You absolutely do NOT want this.


A GPU requires fast and wide access to memory. This is why we see high-frequency and wide-channel connections from the GPU to the onboard memory directly.

If the GPU was able to access off-board memory, it would have to go through multiple connections (which adds latency) to access the memory. In addition, there would be very complex overhead to ensure memory cohesion.
