You will NOT be able to run on ULTRA without at LEAST 1.5 GB Vram

BUT

There really isn't a different in texture quality or anything.

High looks FANTASTIC. You won't miss anything.

Ultra:

High:

You're not seeing a difference because Ultra isn't even in the beta right now. Ultra will take more to run.

the 460 SLI with a 955 X4 OC of 3.7ghz will give optimal results in BF3 and with it being at 1440x900 you should get great FPS

Have you checked benchmarks? You think going from high to ultra with better drivers and 460 SLI will drop from 60+ fps to below the playable threshold (30 fps)? I disagree.

This is not correct. SLI 460 is very similar to a 580 in performance, and my 580 can run it quite well maxed out at 1080p, He shouldn't have much trouble at all doing the same at 1440x900. What I believe he failed to mention though is unless I'm mistaken he's considering the 768Mb 460s, which wouldn't be terrible at his current resolution but I still stand by the recommendation that you will be able to get much more out of the 1Gb versions for much longer. The 768Mb cards in SLI will have more power than the have VRAM to use it with in the future even at your current res but will be all but crippled at a higher res like 1080p.

So I really would just get a single 460 1Gb and then add another when you can, rather than getting the gimped 768Mb versions. Even a single 460 1Gb won't be bad at your resolution while you wait to get the second.

Its still got all the same faults as the 955.
But it might OC a little higher?

And I HEAVILY recommend getting a 1GB version and then a second when you can.
There is no reason to buy an pair of cards with outdated VRAM amounts.

You can tell me I'm not correct all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that I said I read that EA/DICE said you would need a hell of a setup to run it maxed. Yeah the OP isn't running at 1080, and that will help, but fully maxed Ultra in a giant map with 2x 460s? Yeah, I'm not sold on that.

Ah excellent, I must have mistook you for someone else then. SLI 460 1gb is a very good set up even at 1080p so it will be a monster at 1440x900. I wouldn't anticipate any lack of GPU performance. The AMD CPU is a concern but I don't expect it to be a deal breaker, although others will likely know more about how much it will hurt you.

Try playing it with just one of your 580s with SLI disabled and tell me what you think of it, if it's completely unplayable while maxed out or not. Then realize that the the OP's resolution is only 62% of the pixels that 1080p is and factor that into your opinion. We may still disagree but based on my first hand experience with a comparable set up to the one in question, I expect the OP to have plenty of GPU power.

Those Gtx 460's should be fine, HD 6850's in crossfire won't drop below 40 FPS. The two cards are almost identical in performace.

I want to stress again that no one here has seen or benched BF3 in Ultra mode yet. Let alone fully maxed anti-aliasing.
