Need advice crossfire/sli or single gpu

Comp spec

3.3ghz i52500k OC to 4ghz
Case is hafx. I changed all the stock fans with after market fans. So I have adequate cooling.

Basically what I need some help in deciding is if I should purchase another
5770 and crossfire them or buy two 6850s and crossfire them or buy one
single gpu such as the 6970.

Games I plan on playing/play are BF3/MW3 /starcraft 2 /wow/ bf3/ crysis 2 on ultra if possible.

Budget is around 300-350. Can go up to 500 if I need to purchase a PSU to power up.

IMO, it's always better to buy a single higher quality GPU than two lower spec units.

I have, and have had, both and prefer the single card over CF or SLI.

out of those choices, xfire 6850's or a single 6950 for now, then later xfire 6950s

5000 series doesn't scale as well as the 6000's do.

Ty for advice gsa700 and rocko. So choice one is out of the bag. Another question I have is whether I need to upgrade my PSU to power up two xfire 6850s? I currently have a 650watt xfx psu which I bought in bestbuy before I knew about newegg. Is that enough if I want to crossfire 2x6850s.

Reason I'm moving away from the 6970 is I'm most likely going to want to crossfire my single gpu. If I do that its going to break my budget.

That PSU should be fine for crossfire 6850's.
Have you thought about crossfire 6950's, your current PSU would still be powerful enough for that kind of setup. They are available for 209.99 each after a rebate on newegg

Have you looked at a gtx 580? A single 580 should be enough for any game! Later on, when the prices drop, you can get another 580 for sli, remember that BF3 will need 2x gtx 580's in sli to fully run it on ultra.
