this thread clearly didn't end up going anywhere productive.

cleaned and reopened.

please keep calm, stick to the topic at hand, and stop making personal attacks/trolling

This, in my view, is not very professional as it conveys a level of censorship which tries to show some sort of 'bulldozer damage limitation'. When lab501 was showing previews of monster GPUS that were not even out yet, people were happy and did not talk about the credibility. Their FERMI preview was spot on and the final product reflected what they said. The did not sign an NDA then either and censored all the vital data on the GPUs.

Are you that naive? You don't need to sign an NDA to have access to the latest thing. You need a wallet full of cash, how much did Engadget pay for the iPhone that got 'lost'? There is a simple reason for which any relevant information about the CPU is hidden : they do not want AMD to go on an APPLE spree and sue every party that got involved with this CPU.

In order for them to post this PREVIEW, they had to protect themselves. I am sorry to see that not even in the final hour, people do not realize that when a brand new architecture is finished you do not hide it like AMD. Intel showcased Conroe and attacked the FX not with slideshows but with benchmarks! AMD has done nothing of the sort because this CPU does not perform. You keep your customers by showing the monster power of the CPU not by using fancy colours in a slideshow and advertising this as a true octal-core cpu.

The corporate spies did their job and INTEL's reaction with IVY is understandable. They can afford further improvements to the architecture as AMD poses no threat.
I know it has already been done but this post gets another THIS! and a rep because you have expressed my exact feelings on this thread perfectly.

I sure hope the chimp doesn't power trip delete this post.

sadly, those with their eyes open saw all the early signs :
1. the delay's
2. the rumors from OEM's complaining about performance
3. the leaked benches
4. the AMD Engineer who complained about the company strategy focus
5. the pricing
6. the silly 8.4Ghz "show"

but honestly, after reading this thread, I came to a conclusion that some people will buy BD Regardless of what performance they will see on the 12th, even if it means their current x6 outperforms.
sad..

I think many of you people are still stuck in the age of "my CPU is faster than your CPU". Like how some people are still stuck in the analogue era and believe they need a 24k gold plated HDMI cable that costs $100 per feet.

Formfactor is shifting and people are still stuck in the desktop mindset. It's not about speed anymore, it's about efficiency, useability, intuitiveness. I wouldn't be surprised to see 5 years from now that we'll have computers or processing units designed for very specific tasks instead of a computer that tries to do it all, because obviously for many of you, you only do a hand full of things with your computer.

Seriously, after the first batch of Bulldozer CPU's have shipped they should just stop production immedatiely and make a Phenom II shrink using eight K10.5 cores for the next generation of CPU's.

If thats the real performance of Bulldozer then it wont make much sense to further develop the architecture seeing how BAD it is even when compared to Thuban.

Even a higher clocked 32nm Thuban without any architectural enhancements would easily crush the benchmark results of the FX-8150 and im sure 32nm would easily allow for two additional cores on the Thuban.
Now, add to that general architectural enhancements that could allow for minimal improved IPC or clocks and you got yourself a decent chip.

ITS NOT TOO LATE YET AMD.

You and a few hardcore bulldozer fans, have become predictable. Whenever I see a Bulldozer thread, I know that if there is an argument, one of you is involved. I am interested in buying a Bulldozer rig, as someone in my family needs a good cheap solution for Photoshop, but everytime I want to get some information on Bulldozer, I have to sip through tens of pages of trash to get to the 2-3 objective posts!!

In a similar veins, the diehard INTEL fans are ruining the OCN experience. Instead of behaving like mature people, they bicker and argue for no reason like prom girls. What happened with civilized conversations and healthy debates??? All I see is personal attacks on the internetz! This is where the mods need to start hacking and slashing! This is the root of the problem!
Good summary.

Why would AMD repeat history? They don't have the brand recognition nor resources to do what Intel did. AMD would have to be brash and stubborn.

One of the 6 languages I speak is Romanian and I have dissected this preview all day long. The people posting the preview are worried about something else which was not mentioned at all in this thread.

Quote:
Cum explicam faptul ca producatorul AMD incurajeaza overclocking-ul, dar Bulldozer isi dubleaza consumul de energie si asa prea mare doar prin ridicarea frecventei si a tensiunii de alimentare in limite modeste ?
The above quote says : How do we explain the fact that AMD encourages overclocking but BD doubles its energy consumption which is already too big due to marginal clock and voltage increase?

They have a valid point as cheap BD motherboards will not be able to regulate this power draw .

Another question, I would like to pose: if this is true and BD does perform like this, why the deception?

P.S: sorry for the bad translation, I've tried to keep it as close as possible to the original in order to avoid dramatic changes in meaning.

P.P.S: This preview did not have an ES sample, so why are people doubting it? The ES excuse is out the window. Furthermore, does a BIOS improve architecture?

Anyone else shocked to see the power consumption at 4.8Ghz? 268 watts? Really?

Thanks for the translation. I think that is particularly relevant given the thread a couple weeks earlier, with the 4+1 boards. So what's the best case scenario? A Tbred-A to Tbred-B situation? Let's say there is some help on that in the near future...it still feels like treading water here, which is more concerning for Trinity than BD.

Considering the importance of Fusion to AMD's future, I am legitimately concerned now.
