As for your comparing 580's to this thread, is irrelevant, (even if wrong), because this entire thread is about 6970 equal to 570?

Not going to confuse the OP's question or hijack the thread.
Now, not to belittle his results -those are the fastest 6970 scores I know of- you have to remember he is running 6970 lightnings under water with a serious OC. My comparison was stock reference cards vs stock reference cards. Fwiw, comparing high end 580's (Matrix, lightning, Classy) he loses out to them (ex, 580 lightings at only 985mhz on air beats his 3Dmark score by almost 1500 points) but the 6970 lightning is much cheaper than those cards.

I will concur to that. Now my question is for everyday use it would be highly impractical if not suicidal to run that type of over clock 24/7. So I'm back to answering the OP with they are still equal except in certain circumstances of heavy over clock and depending on which brand.

Therefor reference cards are in fact equal.

This is where maybe there is communication gap?

Your tests were done with average over clocks and proved quite equal across the board.

I don't know of anyone running benching type over clock 24/7.

Are you talking about GPU score or total score? Because I don't see any 580 Tri-SLi beating me in the OCN 3D Mark 11 thread in the benchmarks section.

I only see Quad-SLI 580 beating my score. You have to look at the GPU score only anyway, or else 6 cores system on X58 will beat me easily. We are comparing GPUs.

Here's the latest OCN 3D Mark 11 table. So could you please show me those ''high end 580's (Matrix, lightning, Classy) he loses out to them (ex, 580 lightings at only 985mhz on air beats his 3Dmark score by almost 1500 points''? I don't see them.

Particularly those 580 Lightning beating me? Wermad, for example, has 3 580 Ligtning btw and a lower score then my latest score. He has 3X 580 Tri-SLi Lightnings. And where is that Lightning ''on air', beating my score? I don't see any in there.

And Arizonian. Where are the 570 in that table? I only see 580 Tri-SLi under me, and not a single 570 set-up??? Missing in action? If they are the equal of the 6970, 570 Tri-SLI should be there with me. I only see 580 Tri-SLi. What's happening???

Ohh. I see them down there with a score of around 14000. Hum. 6970 = 570. Not so sure...

At stock speed maybe...

BTW my latest score was not updated today. This is a lower score I got 4-5 months ago with my 6990.

I'm running those clocks 24/7 btw. I'm not ''suicidal''.

I'm running my i7 2600K at 5.3 since last january when I got it, and playing all my games with my 3X6970 at 1035/1450 at 1.25v. Not a single problem.

Cores are at 35-38 celsius MAX, and VRMs around 40-45 celsius on Furmark.

And I just noticed Afterburner wasn't raising my voltage on my 3rd card, so now I can do 1055/1475 24/7.

I didn't mean what I posted to be an insult but you seem to have forgotten that you're the outlier to the main group of 6970's that again are just a bit faster than a 570 in most cases and slower than 580's. Yes, we know they scale well in tri-fire. We get it. Trying to pass your setup (while cool) off as the rule rather than the exception is just not practical.

Should I just say you win? You have the fastest 3-card setup ever, so lets advise everyone that wants a 6970 or 570 or 580 to buy 3x Lightning 6970's, add some water cooling and an OC'd 2600k at 5.3, then spend hours tweaking to get a stable OC just to play some games and browse the internet? Instead of trying to offer advice to people looking to buy a single card you're trying to prove you're the best, thats not entirely the point here.

Agreed where talking about reference card, his setp-up is tri and the cards are underwater. His benches dont apply to the threads OP.

This 100%.

Great setup Levesque no one is taking that away from you. Your money you put into it is impractical for about 99% of us. That's why on air 6970 vs 570 are equal as Scorpion proved very accurate.

I'm really liking the 6970's under water. Think I'm going that setup. Will I be able to overclock them as well with a reference board, or should I get the lightning version? Also, are flashed 6950 twin frozr III's going to be the same as the 6970 lightning version?
