LOL wut? It took me 30 minutes max to get my stable OC on my 2600 K (everything at auto) and my 3 Lightnings.

Ask RagingCain how much HOURS it took him to tweak a single Nvidia 590. Stop always attacking me, please. Ask RagingCain. I remember him posting it took him HOURS to tweak a 590 just to be able to bench it.

But you won't. I'm the aim. I'm the guy you don't want to see in here, because he's proving alot of people wrong. You can't accept that. RagingCain took 6 hours to tweak a 590 to be able to bench... but how cares, he's in our Club, on ''our green side''. So that 6 hours he lost is not important. Nah. Pesky little details...

So here's the terrifying and overly complicated tweaking I did. I just tried 1075/1475 with Furmark 30 sec, then I had a driver reset. No crash, no BSOD. So I lower my speed by 10, Furmark 30 sec, etc, until no reset. Find stable OC for 3 Lightnings: 10 minutes. Start 3 pass of Metro 2033. Pass, check. Ok. Stable OC.

My GOD! I lost 15 minutes of my life!!!!!!

Here's the complicated, terrifying and impossible for other then me to get set-up. LOL. 3X 50$ universal waterblocks + 20$ of cheap RAM heatsinks.

3X MSI Lightning 6970 with EK-VGA Supreme universal blocks.

Ok, so here's what always happens on OCN. Really tired of it. But hey, what can I do. So, just for fun.

1) Nvidia loyalists ask for proofs and bench. ''Put your x, y or z where your mouth is or shut-up noob! All talk no bench troll!''

2) You post proofs and bench of the most GPU demanding/depending game on the planet, Metro 2033 (and a TWIMTBP game btw lol!), like they did ask you to do. You beat highly OCed 580 Tri-SLI. They are not happy with the results, since you are beating 580 tri-SLI.

3) Nvida loyalists all gang-up on you, start attacking you, insulting you, and desperately trying to put aside and dismiss everything you post (because they did ask for those benchs. Remember?). And the last thing they will usually start to do: calling you a troll. Because they can't accept your results. You prove them wrong. Ego is shattered. So the personnal attacks start.

''Yes but but but there is a guy somewhere beating your score with 580 Tri-SLI with core clocks at 1500 ''on air'' (not LN2, on air!). I'm sure I've seen it somewhere!''

So why did they ask for benches at all? Remember the ''all talk no bench'' comment. Why asking for benches if they can't, and won't, accept the results anyway?

4) So the usual internet tactics are starting. Everyone start calling you a troll, no matter what you say or post. They start doing micro-psycho-analysis of every word you post. They start reading your 3 years old posts, trying to find sometyhing to dismiss you and put you aside. They MUST discredit you at all cost! It's like politics. ''He smoked marijuana 30 years ago, don't vote for that guy!''

4B) Sometimes they will start attacking 3 years old AMD drivers and cards: ''I had an AMD card 3 years ago and I had 1 BSOD while installing drivers, so ALL the millions of AMD cards on the planet sux and are having the same problem! and and it's impossible that they fixed those problem AFTER that!''. And then the usual: ''but AMD drivers sucks! Nvidia drivers (killing cards...) are better!''

Hey. They can't accept your benches results. They can't accept those Metro 2033 fps. So they must say something! ''AMD drivers sux!'' for the win!!!

5) Nvidia newbies that don't have a clue start calling you ''noob'' also, to be accepted in the Club!

6) Nvida loyalists congratulates each other for having the best cards on the market. Pat on the shoulder. Everyone is happy. We all go back to our real out of the internet life. Nvidia is da best!

7) AMD troll leave the thread.

Have fun guys. But at least some intelligent people just passing by, not posting here, and reading my results, will see that 3X6970 and 3X580 are head-to-head, and that 3X6970 is faster then 3X570, and not equal at all, and that with cheap watercooling and 10 minutes of tweaking, you can get an AMD set-up beating 580 Tri-SLi for alot less $.

The troll is leaving. Have fun.

Oups. One last thing. I agree. 6970 totally = 570. No. Not true. 570 is BETTER then 6970. At stock speed, low resolution and with no AA at all, the 570 is totally beating the 6970. Who wants to game at high resolution and with any AA anyway? Who needs VRAM? And 580 is much much better then a 6970. The 6970 is around 80% slower then a 580. I was wrong. The 6970 is totally overpriced!

Ok ok nVidia are the greatest of all.

@ OP

Just a heads up, might want to check if your motherboard supports SLI.

There are many experience folks in this thread will be able to advise you on that.

Ok ok. Here's a little fast bench of Metro 2033 I did at 2560X1600 4AA this morning.

Remember? Most demanding game on the market, TWIMTBP title?

i7 2600K at 5.2 - 6970 Tri-Fire Highest run: 67.5 fps average 66 fps.

Since 6970 = 570, let's see a 570 Tri-SLi set-up beat that average score. I should be flooded with those, since they are equal.

And let's see a 580 3GB Tri-SLi set-up beat that score also, just for fun. Since EVERYONE and their mothers knows that 580 Tri-SLi is MUCH MUGH faster then 6970 Tri-SLI.

And please use the SAME settings. 2560X1600 and 4AA. Not AAA. Not synthetic benchmarks. Most demanding game on the planet, 4AA, high res.

I forgot! Latest Nvidia drivers are suppose to give Metro 2033 a 10% boost! So it should be an easy win for 570 or 580 tri-SLI.

Let me reiterate the original post:

Hey guys, planning on buying either one to play BF3. Benchmarks show them neck and neck, I really am curious as to which one will pull ahead with driver optimization? The future plan is also to Crossfire/SLI them in a few months.
So we are talking about one single card right now. Run at stock or near stock settings, and in his own research (AKA 99% of the rest of the world besides you) found the bolded to be the case. Not to mention the question has been answered to the OP's satisfaction already. Nobody here is attacking your setup, we're attacking your severe inability to grasp what the point of the thread originally was.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm currently running on my old 8800GTX after my 4870 died from a CPU block leak.
I could purchase a 580 but I really don't want to spend that much, I would simply regret it. I'm looking at the 570 vs 6970 market also.

After having been with ATI for a few years now after upgrading from my 8800 originally, I'm more tempted to go back to Nvidia. I think I will go with the 570 for now and hopefully go SLI in January with a new Intel build as well.

But now I'm stuck on which 570 to purchase. The classified with less VRAM but higher clocks or the 2.5gb VRAM model? I'm going to be going for a more BF3 orientated build as well as a big Flight Simulator player.

Get the 2.5gb Vram one and overclock it yourself, it's very easy and it takes around 10-15 min as "the troll" said so. The classified one is overclocked from factory , a thing you can do on your own. If you plan on keeping the 570 a year or more defenetly get the 2.5gb one.

edit: i would profit and get this deal if i were you ! it's totally worth it.
or you can try this for a few more quids.

Yeah I was heading more towards the 2.5 VRAM model. I also looked at that 580 deal but not too sure. What are Gigabyte like? I have never used them. I would consider it if they are recommended. Just even seeing £400 makes me squirm. I could go for it, but I only know I will have it on my mind. It is a lot to spend when I'm currently working unpaid on my placement year at the moment.

As for that OcUK card I don't think I would. Had one of their cards before on a second rig and I will never use them again.

Gigabyte are great. Have great mobos and video cards. Have had gigabyte cards before and have had no problem with them. Also have my current 590 from gigabyte and it works flawless.
Levesque your an ATI loyalist, we get that. You come off harsh by putting down one product to bring another product up. When it's not true, so we post back.

You claim if we say 570 are equal to 6970 somehow we're Nvidia loyalist? We'd have said it was better than but we didn't so that's a false accusation on your part. We're claiming in 99% of situations they run on par with each other and never knock down the other.

Sure a Lightning 6970 is better than most 570's. Same can be said about a 570 Lightning is better than most 6970's. Lightnings are really great cards from either camp. If they were both Lightnings they'd be back on par with each other and equal again.

We even showed you proof.

The truth of the matter is the OP can choose either and know that he didn't pick the lesser of the two cards. Either way he's going to be happy.

Some other facts....No one said AMD drivers suck on this entire thread but you put down Nvidia drivers in your rant. Your the person you hate most yourself. Your doing the discredting in your rant. Do you not see how you come off?

Did a cat take a dump in your cereal this morning and you didn't find out until the last bite?

You might want to take some of your own advice "On the internet, for 10 REALLY VOCAL whiners, you have 1000 satisifed customers that don't post".

Let's stay on topic, your rant was non-productive. This discussion has come to it's being useful and will be my last on this topic as most have concured they are equal. Good luck OP and when you've decided post back so we know which way you went for closure.

If you do get the 2.5gb model please post a review of it. There isnt much info about that card out there and it might help some other users.
