Thanks for the recommendations guys, this really helps out a noob like me. Maybe I'll have some questions about overclocking later

I have a couple of questions:

1) Why a single 580 over 560 SLI? I read a couple of reviews (something on guru3d) that said 560 SLI has equal or superior performance to a 580. Is that not true?
2) What's the point of the efficiency ratings on PSUs? Is that more for corporations or server use?
3) What difference (if any) does faster RAM make? Do I really need anything faster than 1600 MHz? Obviously, faster is better, but will it ever get to the point where my RAM becomes the bottleneck?
4) Is there any difference whatsoever between the H70 and the Kuhler 920? They seem like the same thing made by different companies.

1. 560,s will perform slightly better, but its idea to have the best single gpu vs SLI, less driver issues and also sli option later. (imo)

2. ?? Marketing ?, electric bill?

3. it will run at 1600mhz default , you will have to overclock it to get it to run 1866. If im not mistaken.

4. Probably not much just look and brand. I own a h-70 and really like it.

1) Don't go with AMD. Stick with Intel. MSI is NOT a bad choice.
2) Make sure mobo has "Intel" SATA3 for future SSD
3) No doubt (1) GTX580 You can get another later for SLI (won't need it right now.
4) I would get at least an 850 psu (again for SLI later on
5) Don't need over 1600mhz for memory
6) The H70 is a great cooler, You won't need more unless your doing big OC

Wow, that looks great. I might consider upping my budget a little to get something like your system.

You're running low on battery btw

Might want the AX850 for this one. Also I like that case better than the Antec.

Anyways, here it is, my proposed ~$1600-1700 gaming rig.

CPU: i5-2500k
GPU: Dual MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB SLI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz
Case: Antec 900
Motherboard: MSI P67-GD65
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB 64MB 7200RPM
PSU: Corsair AX850 850W GOLD
Cooling: Corsair H70

As for the DVD drive, I'll just take the old one from my old rig.

What do you guys think? Any tweaks you would like to make?

Also, are there any obvious bottlenecks you see? Do you think 1866MHz RAM is necessary? I was thinking maybe I was wasting money on faster RAM, but I don't know much about it. I also got the MSI motherboard because its cheaper and I've heard good things about that one in particular.

Thanks in advance for your replies! ^^
My rig in my spec is $1600 min... not sure how is yours that's much already... SSD/CPU probably?

My 1600Mhz ram is fast, also windows marked as 7.8 anyways. Latency is low 43ms. Don't listen to those marketing scheme you need faster ram and etc. 1600Mhz is enough for most things and at 8GB. Windows 7 64bit itself uses huge part of your ram (you won't see it in the Monitor). So if you have 4GB only which only means you have small amount left for anything.

32bit OS is another story.

If 1866Mhz / 2000Mhz ram are the same price near as 1600Mhz. It wouldn't hurt to get them. I don't see why not. But if there is a $50+... I'll reconsider.
