I7 950 built or i7 2600k Built (NO OVERCLOCK) - Page 2

Thanks for all your replies. I've heard that overclocking will reduce the life of the PC- Thats why I don't want to overclock otherwise i don't have any problem overclocking. My PC is 6 years old which is single core I upgraded it with 4 x 1 gb ram and 1 x 1gb agp graphic card. However, I think this is time to change to new tech.

I would go for overclock i7 2600k if the life of PC doesn't go down. I want to keep the next pc for another 5 years or so. I can increase the bugdet to £700. Please advise . Thanks

I know what I did is the bare minimum. I am assuming OP doesn't need a case or OS, or anything else.

I overclocked my old AMD Athlon 3 years ago from 1.6GHz to 2.1GHz and it is still working perfectly fine OCing doesn't decrease the life. That is just something CPU manufactorers say to scare you into not doing it to their cheap CPUs. AMD has Black Edition CPUs, they are made specifically for OCing. In fact they recommend you do it. Its the same thing with Intel, except their Black Edition CPUs are called i* ****K [change the * to numbers]

i think your budget will be near impossible if u plan spending the 250 on the i7 2500k lol
also if your not overclocking get the non k version and save a few quid.
Ram
for gaming you only really need 4gb at the moment but with ram being so cheap you can pick up 8gb for around 45quid nowdays
graphics card
this really depends on what games you want to play.
motherboard
as you do not plan on overclocking i would suggest you go for a h series of motherboard as they are much cheaper.
power supply
for a singe graphics card system i would suggest a 500w power supply

i will give you a list of possible items on my next post (after your suggestions)
Battlefield 3 - crises etc. are the games I love to play. mostly Online games

i have gone ahead and built you a system with the following items
samsung f3 1tb
i5 2500
arctic 7
asus p8-h67 m
2x4gb corsair 1333mhz
standard black case (looks dont matter with a budget like this, as long as it has openings for air to get in and out, it shouldnt make too much of a difference)
powercool 450w 80plus
asus gtx 550ti
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/412/capturehw.png/
comes just under budget if you get the free delivery

Issit just me or am I seeing idiots placing irrelevant ads on OCN?

Based on andrew's build, heres my suggestion.
Anw, if you are getting a H61 mobo, I would most definitely get an i3 and a P67 board instead, then get a i5k/i7k in the future for more performance as a CPU upgrade is way easier than a mobo upgrade w/ CPU cooler (probably cheaper by that time too). Plus an i3 wont affect games that much anw over a i5/i7. Heck, the i3 1155 does better than AMD's offerings in certain games when clock for clock matters more.

Plus, GTX 460 > 550ti.

I like this as well... But Please can any one tell me if this is true?

by Overclocking will the life of the pC reduce? as I am planning to use the same pc for about 5 years or over? Thanks again
post #17 of 78
Oh yeah if you want the link to the parts I put together for that price then let me know.

EDIT: No Overclocking will NOT reduce the life of a CPU.
