Asus Xonar DX - thoughts after 3 days.

So based on the advice found here on OCN, I jumped on a Xonar DX to replace my onboard Realtek sound.

The hype of the add-in card sound is right. It's a cleaner sound that allows you to hear sounds that you didn't know were there before. I didn't notice it much with Itunes songs but I love the "metallic monks" track from Fallout New Vegas and it was like a different track with all the new sounds that can actually be heard now.

So if you have a spare pcie slot and a few extra bucks, a dedicated sound card will improve your experience.

I hope you have some good headphones to go with it as well... I went from integrated with ipod earphones to this(xonar DX and AT SQ5's), the difference with good quality music(FLAC all the way) is so different. I couldn't ever go back

This, you need to rip some cd's to FLAC and hear the difference between this and a MP3.

It is hard to tell the difference between FLAC and a properly encoded MP3 imho.
