Yea, sometime I think people are referring to maxing out on 3 1200p screens, 100+ fps.

I thought the standard setup is one 1080p monitor, 50-70+ fps, on ultra. I think we just have to wait til the retail game is optimized to really find out.

Beta doesn't have tessellation enabled. The Caspian map looks like a great map to utilize tessellation with all those rocks on the floor.

unused? how u figure? 2 580 in sli is not unused and if it brings my usage down to 60~75% its worth the money to me....thats just me, i dont want my gpu's working hard

It is worth the money? Sounds more like wasted money to me.
Whats the point of buying two GTX 580's if they're almost always sitting at 60% essentially meaning that they dont perform better than a single GTX 580 ?
Would have saved you half the cost.

So either maximize the visuals to fully utilize the GPU's or its pretty much wasted resources and thus wasted money, theres no denial, its a fact.

Last phrase is kinda weird too. Why would you not want your gpu's to work hard? To save power consumption or produce less heat?
Two 580's at 60% will pretty much generate the same amount of heat and draw the same amount of power as a single 580 working at 100%, if not more.

Only reason they'll be running at 60-75% is because something else (CPU) will be running at 100% and holding the cards back from performing to their potential.

First of, there IS difference between HIGH and ULTRA. I get about 40-45 fps on ULTRA on Caspian and 75-85 on HIGH. What the difference is I'm not sure about though.
You people not seeing any difference in framerate between these two settings have not closed down the game entirely when changing settings (which is required to make it stick).

I do not know about you, but when I play an FPS-game of this sort I sure will not be satisfied with 30 FPS. I need a rock solid +60 fps to make sure no lag get's me killed. And I promise you that running Caspian border on ULTRA (final game) on a 580gtx will not get you +60 fps all the time when smoke, explosions and 10 people shooting at each other at the same time. No way in HELL!

But the GPU is not the whole thing here. My hexacore i7 @ 4 GHz with HT off will sometimes get overloaded on Caspian. The scenario mentioned above makes my CPU hit 100% load...
That means you guys with less expensive GPUs will be bottlenecked by the GPU and people with lots of GPU-powa maybe will be bottlenecked by their CPU in some scenarios.

I am sure I will need to OC my hexacore some more and will absolutley need to buy a third 6950 to be able to enjoy smooth +60 fps gameplay on ULTRA-setting i the final game.

Now Metro is a whole other story. Not even near as demanding as Caspian.

Are you sure? Then turn on Depth of Field in Metro (I take it you already have tesselation on and maximized AA/AF)

My gtx 570 sli runs beta on ultra at 60fps easily at 1080p. (gets around 70-90 with vsync off) I imagine the graphics are going to be a lot better, but game engine will be more efficient by then... so IMO if you can run the beta on ultra, you will be able to run the release game on ultra. There is a slight difference between high and ultra, but its down to things like anti aliasing, the textures are all the same on the beta...

I think I will be able to handle it. By the way, the recommended specs are probably too hold 60fps, I cant understand why people run high settings and live with 35-40 fps on a game, if your not holding 60 fps then your rig cannot handle it IMO...

EDIT: if the graphics are mostly the same between high and ultra on the beta, then my gtx 570 sli is just enough to hold 60fps on high/ultra, so I do believe you MIGHT need gtx 580 sli to hold 60 fps on ultra in release...

Time will tell.
