IB will seriously benefit from my 2x HD6970 @ 2560x1440 by a lot with all the DX11 support and 4K res. 24FPS issue fixed and etc.
It is still the same socket so yes any 1155 cooler will work. Just because it has a smaller fab doesnt mean the external dimensions need to change.

Indeed, I forgot about that. Cheer.

Now, should I get 2500k or wait for Ivy Bridge CPU? If it is something like 2700k, then I would already answer my question (not worth it for gaming) unless if it is something else than 2x00k lines.

Depends on what you do with your PC. Is your X4 starting to get chewed up by apps, encoding etc? How bad do you want an upgrade?

IB will be faster and cooler but were about 7 months away. So if you are happy with your current rig keep it, if you need an upgrade jump on a 2500-2600K.

This is my plan, keep the X4 system until Ivy Bridge. My close friend was wanting an upgrade from his old XPS GTX 8800SLI and he is low on budget for anything. (we're mid adults it's just he couldn't find a good profession job yet)... So I was thinking selling my CPU and board 50% to him only. =P

I'm very interested by the 3930K, but i'll wait to see how it perform vs SB before. 3930K/X3960 seems to have a lot of power under the hood compared to a 990X (and so also a 2600K) according to this old news (http://www.techpowerup.com/149464/Co...90X-Intel.html). Of course all pre-release news are theories until the release.

Anyway if it's not so good i'll wait for IB, but i don't want anything w/ less core than my X6, i'm not a gamer.

Unless AMD do a miracle but no thanks...

Alrighty I have a question about IB and I can't find an answer anywhere.

I seem to remember hearing that the new pci 3.0 slots will require a IB chip to run at full bandwidth. Is this true? I was thinking about getting a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157265 with a 2700k and just throwing in a 600 series card when they become available. Is that possible?
