Of course all pre-release news are theories until the release.

Anyway if it's not so good i'll wait for IB, but i don't want anything w/ less core than my X6, i'm not a gamer.

Unless AMD do a miracle but no thanks...

Take a 2600K, add 2 core and 4 HT's and you get a 3930K

I had convinced myself i would just pick up SB and be done with it. But with more leaks coming about the x79 and upcoming SB-E Processors I'm probably going to jump on the 3930k or the Quad variant..depends on funds at the time. I heard that IB will be segmented into mainstream and enthusiast platforms also, with IB-E being on LGA 2011 and IB on LGA 1155. If so a x79 chipset would have some longevity with a definite upgrade path already set. For some odd reason i feel like going all out on this next rig.

Knowing Intel there is no way to tell if IB-E will be on LGA2011. For all we knwo they could just go for an entirely different socket, that would be totally messed up though.

That's what scares me about dropping that much money for X79 and SB-E only to turn around in 2012 and Intel now has another socket for IB-E. It just wouldn't surprise me if they did that though. I felt like within a blink of an eye my LGA775 rig was obsolete although in reality it lasted quite a while(3 years?) then came Nehalem and then sandy bridge, all with respectable times in between them, but SB-E and IB roadmaps seem very close. I guess only time will tell.

I saw some pictures of Intel's Closed loop WC solutions and i was thinking to myself "Awesome they're going to ship a all in one kit with their enthusiast CPUs" then i read the anantech preview and it noted they will be selling them separately of course frown.gif New Motherboard design with Dimm slots on both sides coupled with more features such as PCI-E 3.0. It's turning out to be a very nice (expensive) platform

X79 will undoubtedly be expensive, I cannot be sure where I read this or whether or not it's true, I'll look aroudn and see if I can find the link again but I read that the chipset for X79 will be $50/70 more excluding the cost of the entire motherboard. eek.gif Again not sure if true.

It will be expensive but on par with X58's release. If you want 6/8 cores its the only option

Thanks, hopefully it'll reduce the need for new threads created which invovle Ivy and SB-E.

It still needs updating every now and again, which can be a littel hard work biggrin.gif

Thanks for all your support, please continue using this thread and spread the word thumb.gif

Yeah Munaim, great job on the thread, and epic avatar thumb.gif

While the platform might be an expensive one to go all out on, unless your using your CPU for professional or work related uses where more speed actually helps decrease work times and increase work done, SB-E should provide a lot of longevity in performance. While i mostly game, occasionally bench, and overclock, i love the satisfaction of having the ability to run highly threaded apps or mega multi-tasking. The more expansion and options i have for multi-tasking coupled with good speed the happier I am. BF3 should use up to 6 threads at least. Coupled with SLI or CF 8-16gb of memory, and some SSDs your looking at a expensive yet long lasting rig. Been running on Wolfdale/yorkfield/Deneb performance for almost 5 years now, time for a upgrade biggrin.gif

Also i read from Tom's (Yeah i know toms) that the Quad core variant was partially unlocked?? How do you partially unlock the multiplier of a CPU?
