As it stands there is still a substantial amount of info that cannot be verified right now (for all we know Intel will pull a month of all-nighters to keep all those SATA/SAS ports as intended) so I won't have much to offer besides what I already said. It's possible some of you will get to the news before me verifying Patsburg-X's feature set, as well, so I won't have to be the one to update it.

Hopefully as they change things around we'll be here to update the thread aswell, we'd like to obviously confirm certain aspects of the new tech but unfortunatly it's not possible as you said, intel may just do some last minute changes lol. Anyways no worries, be sure to pop in now and again smile.gif

"...Ivy Bridge and new motherboards to enable some features (e.g. PCI Express 3.0, native USB 3.0). The new chipset family falls under the 7-series banner. We'll see Z77, Z75, H77, Q77, Q75 and B75 available at or around launch."

What about P67 / Z68 motherboards with PCI-E 3.0 slots?

Yea, evga needs to get their product out faster, hopefully they can stay competitive. Asus and gigabyte seem to be always beating them quality wise as well.

What about them?

Asus has recently come out with some revisions for PCI-E 3 and a few manufacturers support it as well, but not native USB 3. And they will support IB.

I'm thinking about the 3930k OC'd to 4.5, with the x79 UD5 mobo, but all this power and heat consumption scares me, and makes me this set up will be way loud for music production.
The 8 dimm slots on the x79 is essential for utilizing all 32gigs is very easy, but should I wait for Ivy bridge and newer mobos?
This Sandy E 6 core for 500 dollars cheaper than the 990x seems liek a great deal, but I feel Sandy E will be obsolete.

Then there's Haswell, and by then we'll have 8 core intel cpu's oc'd to god knows what.

I'm confused to your statement. And you already have a 990x why would you upgrade, unless you need all that ram and eventually pci3.
