wow this seems to be a great thread!!! I currently have a X6 and was excited to see that bulldozer was coming out because that meant in due time I would have an upgrade option if i needed it... It seems to me though that BD isnt the best and is really just good for applications that would use 8 cores. I dont do anything that would use 8 cores so i find it useless. I am not actually sure why i would need to up grade my cpu but i would like to get a new mobo for sure and if i do, i want to get a good one. but now that i have seen what is going on over at the Intel side of things i think i would like to go this route When it comes to cpus i really dont know much... But i do know that ivy bridge will be coming out early-early mid 2012 and Sandy Bridge-E later. I would like to know what everyone here has to say about these cpus... basically i need a summary of what is so good about sandy bridge-e and Ivy bridge. i know this is asking alot and i know that it is probabaly all on the first page but as i said i dont really know much about cpus... so sorry for the long post but please help me with this. I would love to come to the Intel side if i can see that i would have use for these new cpus!!! Thank you so much for your time and please help me, once again thanks

Ok, I would advise you to wait till IB comes out, It will be released early to mid 2012, it will be Intels mainstream CPU's and will probably be 6 core at a good price range. Core performance will be up ~ 20% it is predicted and will support 4k resolution on the iGPU. Don't upgrade anything yet! Maybe just an SSD.

I'm not sure yet, but I'm leaning towards Ivy Bridge because then I can keep my motherboard. So if I upgrade, then I will try to go the route that costs me the least amount of money.

As TC said above, I too will most likely get ivy, but im still keeping my options open for SB-E, we'll see

On another note, hopefully in the weekend I'll try and see what I can do in the OP and the rest of my posts, target is to get everything a little more up to date and a bit more info here and there. I have a few articles that I have to kinda read up to get familiar with the new tech, but hopfully get it done soon. Also now that BD is out, hopefully we'll see a little more activity in this thread, im sure you know what I mean!!

Catch you guys later!! This shall be THE SB-E and Ivy blog lol

Should I build a 2500k PC now and sell my i7 PC, then later upgrade to Ivy Bridge, or just wait?

Eventually I'm going to have to upgrade anyway, so I figured now would be good and probably easier.

I would do it, you'll get far better value for your 920 now then you will when Ivy is released. Get sandy now and then upgrade to ivy
