I am sitting where you are. I am waiting a month since the prices are going to be close to what SB was at release. Just hold out I am sure it is worth the wait.

I'm wondering if the perfomance for gaming isn't that wide then I'm ready myself. More than $300 though Im not budgeted. If the IVY equivilance of a i7 2700 is a lot more then I'll have to pass. I realize that no one will know untIl release. I too have everything ready for my PCIe 3.0 GTX 680 except CPU/motherboard.

Well from what the forums have said we are looking for about a 10% increase over their SB equivalents. I have a whole new computer setup just missing the CPU and Motherboard. I cant decide on a motherboard either...

Asus:

MSI:

Gigabyte:

I am leaning towards the Asus. I considered Asrock but these 3 brands have done me very well over the past.

Get the ASUS board IMO. Only get the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 because it's actually going to be IVY capable. Also has one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot for single GPU.

My main question, which might be premature to answer is for the same $330 for the i7 2700K, will I get better performance with a $330 IVY CPU or equivalent?

If the answer is with $330 I won't get as good as performance or even the same level of performance with $330 then I would just pull the trigger now. If you say, wait because the same $330 will bet you better performance than waiting another month or two will be worth it in hindsight.

i can't decide on my motherboard either frown.gif Those are the only two parts i need (i plan on getting a 680)

do we know when z77 is coming out?

also, i can't go for those boards cus my ram is red. And i saw a video on the z77 asrock lineup...they look sweeet. Im banking on a z77 Asrock extreme 3 or 4 and the i5 3570k if my heart can handle the wait...

Go for the middle? Z77 + 2500k? Wait 12-18 months and then pick up an IB really cheap. Should get you through to Broadwell with any luck.

If you don't plan LN2 OCing just get 2700K and this board

i heard that once ivy comes out it will be roughly the same price as sandy

its just a matter of waiting/availability/and the fact that z77 and ivy might have tons of bugs

That's why I went Z68, and I'm probably going a 2500k in the next few days. I hate bugs, so I went the Z68, and I can always upgrade to a 3770K in 12-18 months time just to get me through. That should give them time to knock any problems out of it. In the end it's just a matter of how long you can get by/want to wait. I can't wait any longer - my current computer will die, either on its own accord or me launching the bloody thing off a cliff.
