Oh, I'm definitely going Ivy at this point... just a matter of WHENEVER they release the damn thing. My body is ready :/

I'm on the same boat, I'm doubting between Ivy and Sandy Bridge E. The Sandy Bridge E would benefit me because I do some 3D rendering and it would be useful but it's way more costly than Ivy Bridge and I'm not sure if it's worth the difference. Add to this that I have to weight the fact that I'm buying from Colombia so I have to ship from the US to here plus pay taxes. I'm kind of hoping the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the US would eliminate my need to pay taxes because they double the price of a PC. So I'm in quite a big dilemma. confusedsmiley.png

Sorry for the long post, lol.

Sorry for the long post, lol.

Assuming you are comparing the 3770K and the 3820 CPU's (since they both have 4 cores/8 cores with Hyper Threading), the pricing between the two will not be that far off. If you are looking for more than a quad core, there is no contest as the 3930K and 3960X are your only choices (aside from Xeon's that are not overclockable), if you do a lot of 3D rendering to be worth your while.

Even still, further assuming you are buying from somewhere like Newegg to ship to your country, the 3770K and the 3820 should be within a stone's throw from each other (I'm using a 2600K for this comparison since 3770's are not for sale yet, but should be very similar, if not more):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070

Depending on what motherboard you choose, if you are looking in the sub $200 price categories, then yes IB will win. But if you are looking at a $250+ Z77 motherboard (especially anything in the same level as an Asus Maximus or Gigabyte Sniper), then you're practically in X79 territory. wink.gif

RAM is cheap enough nowadays where 16GB of DDR3 can be slight overkill for IB, or just right for SB-E.

The only thing left is the stock cooler, which you don't get one with SB-E but (I assume) you do get one with IB (correct me if I'm wrong). However, I have a feeling this won't really be taken much into consideration as I assume you are looking for these parts to be overclocked anyway, which you will be getting a separate aftermarket (air or water) cooling. biggrin.gif

So really, depending on your motherboard choice and goals, the LGA2011 platform really isn't that much more expensive if you're comparing similar configurations. Just some food for thought. thumb.gif

Benchmarks from hardware.info got leaked thanks to PC Advisor, check them in my post on the BBC News article topic.

I'm not sure, it also says 29th release and 95W TDP. They could be making that up.

3rd Generation Intel Core Processors Bring Exciting New Experiences and Fun to the PC

There's the official PR from Intel. It still doesn't give us a date. "This month".

Getting tired of the lack of solid dates here.
