im assuming a microcenter is where you buy your newegg products at a store? or am i wrong, and you just want me to go to bestbuy?
I would just order them online... Most BestBuy stores don't stock CPUs/Motherboards and even if they do it's a very limited selection at premium price. Microcenter or Fry's are better options.

Yeah, Microcenter is a retail store. And no, do not go to Best Buy, that place is a rip off!

yea, i mean i can easily stretch it to $400 MAX, though i was hoping i could get something good at that range. i guess not, i wouldn't really mind though, since ive experienced what happens when you dont pay for that little extra now, it comes back and bites you right in the a$$

so i guess ill go with the i5 2500k cpu - $219

what mobo would be best for that at $170?

I just got an Asus P8P67 PRO and I'm loving it. $170 from Newegg.

Go with a Sandy Bridge platform because it will accept the Ivy bridge processors when they come out. So you will have an upgrade path - 1366 and 1156 are obsolete now.
Gaming wise the 2600k doesn't offer anything over the 2500k. Unless you have sw that uses hyperthreading you are just spending more money for additional cpu ram.
(Maybe Civ 5 of Starcraft 2 would take advantage of the extra cpu ram?)

Newegg has the ASRock Extreme 4 gen 3 for $155, nice board, plenty of OC options, PCI-E 3.0 (though it's not really needed), and best part is it's black on black w/ gold caps look.

Also you could go w/ that Asus board the other guy suggested, lots of people on here like them.

Go P67/Z68 and snag yourself a 2500k, there is no point of going 1156 nor 1366 at this point.
