Overclocking 955 BE

Thread Starter
Has anyone managed a successful OC of a 955 BE using a Foxconn A88GMV board?

Looking to go for a gentle OC to start with, but looking for help with settings

You haven't VRM cooling, your board isn't good enough, but i'm not saying you can't overclock it, you can. Start with multiplier. Your CPU is Black Edition that means you have unlocked multiplier and you can overclock easily. Start to increase multiplier and cpu voltage. Put Multiplier to 18 and put the cpu voltage to 1.425 and you'll get 3.6GHz. Run prime95 3-5 hours if you pass you are fine.

I got to 4GHz at 1.4V with my mobo just fine. It was stable as well.

As you can see, he asks for his motherboard and also Deneb core Phenoms has 1.55v of max voltage and 1.5v of "SAFE".

As already stated, the VRM's on your board are not heatsinked, as well as it appearing to be a 4+1 power phase. I wouldn't go more than 1.4v to keep the risk of frying your board to a minimum. That said, you might be able to get 3.8-3.9 at that voltage if you have a good chip.

Poor quality, no heatsink 4+1 power phase, not good for overclocking.

Maybe a Athlon II would be ok, but not a Phenom II.

Thanks guys... Going to be bunging a TX3 on and see how I go. It's my 1st build and 1st foray in to Overclocking. Thought I might give it a go... but 18x multiplier @ 1.425V I'll give it a go.

Just to ask, if I was to reverse the top exhaust fan and make it an intake in the Zalman case, would this help with some of the vrm and mofset cooling I'd need to get a slightly higher overclock?

No heat goes up. If you make the top fan an intake it will just push the hot air back down, making the PC hotter. I did that once and the temps went up from 40C average to 43C average.
