Help me decide (new monitor)

Thread Starter
Well, the time came to upgrade my monitor, I sold them for a very nice price. I am in need of a new monitor. I will be keeping my ASUS 24" screen. I play all the source games, BFBC2, and Crysis. I LOVE CS:S. I have a GTX 580.
I narrowed down to these two:

Which one should I choose and why?

Well from what I see the main difference between these two is the Dell is IPS and the Asus is 120hz.

It really depends on your personal prefrence between the two.

I personally have the u2311h, which is the same thing as the dell you link just 1 inch bigger, and it looks AMAZING in my opinion in terms of color. Like an IPS should. My girlfriend is a Photography major though so she actually had a use for the color accuracy. For just gaming, I would honestly say the colors are a nice addition, but not really make a break kind of deal

The 120hz would probably suit you better if all you care about is games. specially with the 580 running one screen at 1080p, youd probably really benefit from 120hz since your frames should be well over 60 in most games. specially the ones you listed.

So basically tldr

IPS=amazing colors

120hz =less motion blur in games and makes them smoother (turning and things flying by and what not)

Never EVER buy a 16:10 monitor for games.
Why not? I have both a 16:9 and a 16:10, and the difference is negligible. Even though my 16:9 is an IPS, I tend to prefer the extra space on my 16:10 monitor.

Field of View is not everything though. Yeah it's great if you only have one monitor, and only play games. But if you do more than endlessly tap a keyboard, extra space is always welcomed.

Eyefinity was created for just that purpose....bigger (much bigger) field of view.

Here is a difference that may or may not matter: response time

The Dell is 8ms while the Acer is 2ms.
It may or may not be an issue to you but something to realize.

I own the big brother to the Acer at 27" and it's fantastic. The 120mhz just looks great.
I will note this, it's bright so you may have to adjust it a little for preference.

Also another difference is Display Port. The Acer does not have one so if that is important to you then it needs to be taken in to consideration.

The A950 design looks good, I wasn't blown away when I saw one at Microcenter though. My Dell tends to have sharper colors, but is obviously slower .

Id say to just grab the 120hz.
