Bottom Half of Monitor Dim

Thread Starter
I bought a Sceptre E246W LED 1920x1080 monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo) a few months ago and have been pretty happy with the purchase, but when I turned it on today, the bottom half of the screen was noticeably dimmer than the top. I am not at all knowledgeable about monitors, but I assume the backlight(s) on the bottom went out. Is this in fact what the issue is?

As I bought it a few months ago, it is out of the time limit for RMA at newegg and I didn't realize at the time that Sceptre requires that one keep the original packaging for an RMA, so that is not an option. Do any of you know if there is a way to repair this problem? I would be very grateful.

If it is not possible to have this repaired somewhere, what would your recommendations for the best value (in other words, cheapest that's pretty good ) for a 1920x1080 monitor with a relatively low response time and pretty good picture quality be?

Thanks for your time.

Strange, whenever I've had a backlight go the whole monitor has gone dark, but I guess it could be because its LED. If you've only had it a few months I'd honestly try to RMA it, over here in the UK they would never get away with not replacing it for anything under a year although perhaps its different where you are.

Either way I'd try it, from my experience some companies can seem reluctant to RMA just so people don't try, but if you call them they are more than happy to assist. At the very least they might tell you what's wrong with it!

All right, thanks for the response.

To clarify further, it is possible to use the bottom half of the monitor, but the further from the top of the monitor the dimmer everything is. It is still entirely possible to read at the bottom of the monitor, but everything is much darker and the whites especially look bad when compared to the whites at the top of the monitor (off-white much more than white).

I will try to contact Sceptre customer support even though they state that they need the monitor in its original packaging for an RMA on their website. At the very least if I can't RMA it without the original packaging I might buy another of this monitor and use its packaging to RMA the current one so I can have two of these, as I do like the monitor other than the failure of the lower backlight(s).
