Dell XPS 720 Case Conversion(BTX to ATX)

I'm new to these forums but I thought I'd post this up to see some reactions of what I did......I got this computer for free with everything working except a dead motherboard....

Well I killed my old amd phenom II so I was in the market for a new PC. I decided to convert this Dell to a ATX case.

So I had to figure out how to mount the I/O shield since it was backwards. I decided to buy a Lian-Li motherboard tray for 16 bucks I think. I dremelled the back out of it and mounted the Lian-Li tray to the back of the case. It took some measuring but everything mounted up pretty easily. Next was figuring out what to do with the powersupply. It was a 1kw(1000watt) and has 5 12+ Rails. The Cpu connector is 20 pins normally on this one. I took one of the 6 PCI-e power connectors and made my own CPU power plug. It's worked great so far. Every other plug was straight forward.

Next I had to figure out how to wire up the led's. I have them wired up to toggle switches which sit where the floppy drive would have been. I can get all the colors it used to have by switching the switches around. The switches were 60cents online. Wiring is kind of confusing so I'm not gonna explain it on here unless someone wants me to. I installed everything no problems....

Specs are in my sig. Let me know if you have any questions or anything. Thanks for reading the book worth of info i typed lol.

I always found that convering BTX to ATX was just such a PITA... I gave up when I had to do it lol. I'm happy you got through it!
