If you didn't know, you can set W7 to defragment your hard drive on the fly when not in use. It works pretty damn efficiently.

My Windows 7 installation never Fragments,i talk for the people who never defrags the HDD's,and it tends to get slower unfortunately, this + adding the registry cluttering, makes people to reinstall the OS with some tech guy.

This is for the average joe.

Well... the first is possibly coming true, since Win8 is rumored to be getting a new file system, and Metro apps can't access the registry.

Well that's the rumor I was referring to, but you have as good an idea as me what it's all about (ie none).

You want a bet they can't access the registry? (There will be a way... believe me. Although I don't think its a good idea).

Metro apps use the new Windows Runtime, so yep they have an alternative....

Two new types that provide new application settings API's...

Windows.Storage.ApplicationDataContainer
Windows.Storage.ApplicationDataContainerSettings

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ndatacontainer

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...tainersettings

In fact, the core of the Windows Runtime is defined in the registry (and so is every registered Metro style app).

So, the registry ain't going anywhere!

Well, I had read it from the link below:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/For...-2a975f58dc73/

I'm not a developer so I just took the Microsoft employee's words at face value but you seem to know more than me. I guess the registry is going to be more locked down than before but still in use.
