When my brother moved out of the house, he ended up moving into an infested place and they ended up killing a laptop he had.... Now I that I have seen your success story, I think I will try to fix it up.

So, I didn't read all the way through... is it like 100% working now?

Ok so you have convinced me. I will hope I can get my bro's laptop running...

On a more recent note... I took the heatsink off of the CPU and saw the thermal paist... started cleaning it off....

Am I looking at the silicon wafer?! There is nothing on top of it?! Laptops are soo weird!!!

My one experience with taking apart a laptop says yes. I don't think laptop CPU's or GPU's use an IHS.

It is nolonger working 100% due to the horrible RRoD but the bugs are gone and it worked... keep in mind it was also water damaged.

I failed horribly at fixing my previous RRoD'd box so i might bite the bullet and send it to microsoft.

I knew, but this is my first time ever opening up a laptop. Never seen an actual die in person before. It really did shock me. (I'm only 20, be gentle. lol)

Yeah, might void the warranty if they knew you took them out...
At this point might be better off just getting a new one. I heard it was a good bit to have them fix some of the red rings.
