Finally giving in

Hello, My names Nello I usually "lurk" on the forums just reading different posts about hardware and such. But I finally created an account and need to ask for help. I've always used AMD processors but since the i5 2500k was killing my 1100T I gave up and switched over.

So here is the problem I recently purchased an all new motherboard, PSU, and ram with my upgrade. I stuck everything in fired it up booted up with no problems then i decided to start installing drivers but was having issues so I reformatted everything just to make sure i didn't have a corrupt installation. Afterwards everything installed fine but for some odd reason my monitor would go into "power saving mode" and my keyboards lights would turn off but the Tower would still have all of its fans on and running. Then i have to hold the power button down and turn it off and it will boot up again and run perfectly then out of of no where same problem.

So i tried messing around looking for wires or capacitors or anything that may be broken but didnt find any. Then for 2 weeks everything ran smoothly but now even if I edit my bio's to overclock or simply just restart my computer i have a chance of windows telling me "Windows has failed to start up please run start up repair. but it freezes half way through sometimes or it will work then its just a matter of time until it happens again. Once again it started doing the monitor and keyboard problem and now it even goes to as far as when i boot up the keyboard wont work until i get to the windows login. so i cant choose to not do start up repair or even get into safe mode.

Anyways im sorry for any bad spelling or errors in my writing this is why i prefer to "lurk" and not post because im a horrid writer but here is my computer part by part with links if anyone can help or tell me suggestions i'd gladly appreciate it .

You say the first time you installed everything you were having problems, what kind? Usually its better to try and find out what's causing instability before reinstalling right away.

looks like a good build. not sure why you linked to two different video cards though. not sure which one you'd be going for.

do you really need 16GB of RAM? if you've got the budget, why not I guess ... but unless you do a lot of specialized computing hooblah you probably don't need it. place to shave some cash.

and a friendly note/suggestion ... your grammar/spelling is fine, but paragraphs would be awesome. could read it fine, just kept losing my place in a big paragraph ...

welcome to OCN

Firehawk at first everything seemed fine but when i tried to install any type of software it kept telling me it had a writing error. After i reinstalled windows all my software installed perfectly. A few days later things started acting up.

and Pook i only have 16 gigs because the day i ordered it newegg gave me a coupon for code for 40% any purchase of ram. Also I have the 6990 crossfired with the 6970.

Hmm, writing error. Are you using the SSD as the primary drive? If so, try disconnecting the SSD and install to the 640GB drive. If the problem persists, its likely a bad stick of ram. In that case, remove 2 sticks of ram. If problem persists, swap those two for the other 2. If it comes to ram testing use Memtest86 to test it out.

Actually you could start with that, before reinstalling on the platter drive too.

Okay 14 hours of memtesting and no errors

Then the problem is likely with your SSD. Try disconnecting it and installing your OS on the 640GB drive instead.

I would suggest running an R/W error checker on the SSD but I can't think of any free ones at the moment. Maybe someone else can suggest one.
