Not really. A 9800GX2 is soon to be nearly 4 years old yet it can still manage games pretty well.

Then again, the Unified Shader deal was about as revolutionary as the multi-core CPUs were. I don't think we'll be seeing anything quite like that jump for a while.

I remember when at the "personal computers" class we got a old computer that wouldn't work. My teacher picked out the 6800GT that was in it and said "oh this is a powerful graphic card, you can see that on the size of it. This probably can run all of the latest games on max". He said this about a year ago. I never really trusted him after that.

Hell, I remember buying one of the first Visiontek Geforce 3's in 2001 and being able to run the 3dmark 2001 Nature demo when no other card could at the time. I felt like a god......

My 6800GT was a great card, but then the Far Cry HDR update started to rape it...
