I'm not sure if these homeless Baltimorons are upgrading their computers. In fact, they probably don't own computers since they're homeless. I also don't want to get knifed.

Shanks for coming!

If you're going to build an i3 budget gaming rig with no plans of upgrading the CPU, I'd go with the i3 550. Sure it's on a dead socket, but it OC's like mad, and keeps up nicely with even a i7 2600k in gaming, see this thread, or this thread comparing it to i7 920.

I personally have a 2500k rig, and a i3 530 rig, and they perform nearly identical in gaming performance on every game I've tried using a gtx470 in both. I couldn't tell a difference when playing a game, and benchmarks were pretty right on with that first thread I linked to.

Main reason I suggest i3 550 over i3 2100 is OC ability. If you are only using the i3 2100 for a stop gap until you can afford a 2500k, or 2600k then don't bother. If you are planning on using the i3 2100 for 2-3 years, then just do yourself a favor and get the i3 550, and a p55 board, because in 2-3 years you aren't going to want to use a P67 mobo anyway.

if your going to already buy the i3-2100 from MC, pick up the motherboard there too since you get 40$ off.

Or if you are going to MC, you may want to look into going AMD, they usually free/cheap motherboards that are fine for a budget gaming rig. That way you could put more $$ toward a better GPU.

If you can put an extra $50-100 into your GPU budget and get a significantly better GPU, pared with a cheaper AMD CPU/Mobo it would be faster for gaming than an Intel build with a lesser GPU.

Just more food for thought.
