Which Deathadder?

Thread Starter
Need a new mouse...decided on the deathadder (i already have an mx518 so don't want to upgrade to g400 quite yet, and it also goes on sale quite a lot) and I don't want prediction (had a 6 yo intellimouse before mx518). I just don't know if I want Black Edition or 3G. Ideally cheaper but 3G seems better (except for quality concerns)

I will miss adjustable ingame DPI but I guess I can use the MX518 for Battlefield games (switching from person to vehicle) and I play CS at 400 DPI (or sometimes 800 if I up the resolution) and 800 for SC2. Want to see how DA performs on SC2 and CS.

I have the Steelseries 4HD and QCK+ and am planning on getting hyperglides and Shiden Kai mousepads (haven't decided/looked up which one yet, any input is helpful).

Hey buddy, I just noticed you posted in the deathadder megathread. I'll copypaste my response from there:

Between those choices you'll have to evaluate their differences to see what you want in a mouse.

Black Edition

Pros:
- 10$ Cheaper
- Better mousefeel (Arguably)

Cons:
-3 CD Lift-off distance (~4.5mm)

3G

Pros
- Significantly less lift-off distance
- Non-braided cable (which I personally view as a plus)

Cons
- Slippery sides attract grime. Top surface attracts moisture more than the Black Edition

Now, both mice are extremely accurate and have the same ergonomics. These are essentially the two differences in the mice. Pick and choose which attributes you need the most and make your decision based on that.

also if you get annoyed with the LOD use Scotch magic tape at the bottom of the sensor it lowers to about 1CD

I have the 3500DPI version and I really like it for FPS. If you prefer lower DPI it should work too but I rarely use it as DPIs other than 3500 (assault) or 1800 (sniping).

The sensor is different but VERY similar. While I haven't tested the 3,500 dpi at the 800 setting I can tell you they both behave the same at 1,800 DPI. Because of this I suspect they have similar tracking characteristics at the 450 and 800 settings.

Lift-off distance, and the option of a 3,500 dpi setting are the two biggest differences in the mice.

They use the same software so I'd assume so.

The BE should work fine on tighter woven pads.

Does the 3.5G still have worse lift-off distance with the latest firmware?

Also, does the DA still track best at its highest DPI? I remember reading something on esreality years ago where the maximum perfect tracking speed was significantly lower on the lower DPI settings.
