Having issues with OCing my 1100T

Thread Starter
Hello all.

I recently built a new game rig for the upcoming release of BF3. I have played with some of the settings. Googled how to OC, read threw many many posts here there everywhere. Not sure if I am doing this right or what I am doing exactly. At the moment My CPU is at 4.11Ghz and when I run prime 95 I hit 65 degrees C which I don't like. I had it set to 4.01Ghz earlier this evening ran prime 95 for over an hour no errors maxing a CPU temp of 58-69 with vcore 1 hitting 68-70 :/ scared me a bit so i shut down prime and let the system cool down. I ran cpustability test for over an hour no problems barely hitting 48C on my cpu an 48-50c on my vcore 1.

I have purchased 2 more 120mm antec tricool fans to put 1 in the side panel to blow in and 1 to go in my empty drive bay right across my ram and cpu. Maybe I am hitting a bottleneck in cooling within my case or where my case is placed? Not sure and I don't really feel like frying this new rig just yet.

Prime puts a synthetic load on your CPU of 100% on all cores, but I dont think cpustability test does, thats probly why you are getting different temps. More volts = more temps. reduce your overclock till you are comfortable with your temperatures.

I tried 4.0Ghz and played BFBC2 but it would crashed after an hr or so. I know I did something wrong I just don't have a clue where to start. I haven't played with OCing a whole lot before and this weird bios they have is completely different then what I am used to, as well as way way more options for OCing than I had on my previous system. can set it with the default DOCP and it clocks at 3.71 with turbo on and it runs fine. Temps good and acceptable barely breaking 46c while playing BC2 on high for 5 hrs.

What voltage are you using to reach 4.1?

What blue screen code are you receiving when it does crash?

AND how are you monitoring your cpu CORE temp. Not CPU temp, but CORE temp. Use Core Temp, or HWMonitor.

How are you overclocking? Via BIOS or some software?

D

I ran 4.2ghz at 1.46v. NB at 2800 at 1.25v (I think), and HTLink at 2000.

steps are:
1. Set your attempted overclock
2. Run Prim95 for atleast 3 hours to test the stability. Run custom FFT of 8 so it maxes your cpu. If that passes run a prim95 blend for 8-12 hours.

If it passes great. If it fails, fine tune the voltages. try again

Well, as much as people say to run Prime95 or IBT, I never go that long. I ran prime95 on this setup for all of 20 minutes, then IBT for 20 passes. It has never crashed on me. Well not OC related anyways. If it doesn't crash then go play a game for a bit. I find that to be the best test. Do stuff you normally would. Prime and stuff is fine, I just don't feel like letting my pc sit there for 12 hrs grinding away for no reason...

With 4.11 OC according to Core Temp 1.0 it's idling at 30-31c

I am OCing threw the UEFI bios from ASUS as well with ASUS TurboV EVO and DIGI+VRM utility with the AI Suite II.

I reset it back to the default DOCP 3.7Ghz with turbo on auto and upd my ram back to 1600Mhz as it reads 1333Mhz by default. Havent ran anything to test it yet.
running my system at 4.11Ghz ran threw the 3 hrs of p95 custom on ff8 no problems. Didn't get around to the blend test. I tried playing BC2 and it froze up again. I'm wondering if my vid card is overheating?
Also with this UEFI in the AI Tweaker menu there are options as spread spectrum, CP/NB share something another and cpu share and such with the ability of changing it 100%-130% cept for the CPU one it can go up to 140% which is red. I don't know if my voltages are correct, if im over volting undervolting or if the aut detects that ASUS has built in are doing there job.
