SLI not detected!

Thread Starter
Greetings!

I've just acquired a second GTX 460, (Now got a Palit+Gigabyte version) and I'm running into some issues getting them work in the first and second PCI Express x16 slots..

As soon as I put any card in Slot 1 it works
If I put any card in Slot 1(x16) and 2(x16), the Slot 2(x16) card isn't detected
If I put any card in Slot 1(x16) and 3(x8), they both are detected
If I put any card in Slot 2(x16) and 3(x8), they both are detected

Anyone had any experiences with this ? I'm not sure if I should send my motherboard for RMA or that it's a controller/driver issue...

Normally it wouldn't be a problem to run them in 2 + 3 or 1 + 3, except that I have to put my PSU outside of my PC for the 3ed one to fit...
#Fail motherbord maker for putting the 3ed slot so low on the motherbord
or
#fail for my case maker to advertize with 'supports 3 videocards' but forgets to mention they can't be dual slots frown.gif

When you put the card into into slot 2 is it detected via device manager?

Also check that power is securely plugged in, and that you're using an SLI bridge.

Sorry,

Just a small thing, your PSU is going to be under a lot of pressure to keep those cards running. http://www.overclock.net/power-supplies/1045231-phaedrus-quickndirty-psu-calculator.html

Minimum on that says you'll neeed 675w.

Either way, moving on, when you say it isn't detected, does windows even see the additional card?

You don't have to use an SLi bridge, it's recommended but it only helps with sync'ing the cards together.

put a single card in each slot to make sure that each PCI slot is working.

Tried that, invidually, the cards work in each slot, except in 2nd slot, but it might be that that works again now..(need to test, havent tested that since 2+3 worked fine)

PSU, I know, if I stress them overclocked to 100% my PC turns off, looking for a new one wink.gif Still runs all games fine for multiple hours in SLI mode.

What I mean with 'not detected' is that windows doesnt detect it, in any way, not in device manager, not in driver installtion, nothing

Sounds like an issue with the slot in that case. Or it's disabled x16 in SLi because of the lack of power. Not sure if it does that though tbh.

For the 4x0 series, you DO need the SLI bridge for SLI mode to work. It will activate the SLI capable sections on the driver with no bridge, but if you try and shift into an SLI mode, it will complain that you need a bridge and turn SLI back off again.

Well, bought that thing ages ago wink.gif Was sufficient back then, the OCZ atleast is in the list of reccommended stuff and should be more then enough to power this thing ^^.

And if I don't like it, here in Holland we have a law that you may return almost anything you bought online within 7 days of purchase free of charge. smile.gif

@Allikat, I know, but it should detect it nevertheless, only SLI functions are disabled that way (Tried it with and without, same as I put it in #1 and #3, it detects, but no SLI functions ofc
