[Business Insider] Apple Has Already Killed The Original Siri App - Page 9

Re-release it under a different name on the App Store, problem solved.

Oh, and is that video on a jailbroken iPhone 4?
Retribution.

Siri is hosted by Apple's servers and costs them money. I'm not surprised by this, but then again I have a 4S (which is AMAZING).

The thing is, Apple won't allow it, since they are passing Siri off as a "feature" for the iPhone 4S, they claimed it wouldn't work well on the iPhone 4.

Eh, I guess it wasn't limited by hardware but still there's nothing wrong with Apple keeping it for the iPhone 4S. Prior to Apple acquiring it the company that developed Siri had the Siri app put on the App Store for free, which Apple chose to leave there until they finished doing work on it for about a year and a half. There's nothing wrong with them keeping it for the iPhone 4S only.

The problem is news everywhere will be reporting that Apple has released Siri on the App Store under a new name. Don't forget Apple didn't put that app on the App Store, they just left it there after they acquired the company that did it (and was working on Siri).

Then where did the "rumors" come from that the hardware wasn't able to run it on the iPhone 4? Isn't this the info you've been passing off repeatedly?

You have a funny way of always justifying Apple's actions, no matter how wrong they are.

You know as well as I do that at least half of all iPhone and iPad users (I exaggerate a little) would download the Siri (or whatever you renamed it to) app on the App Store to test it out, and they're going to think in some way it represents or is an idea of how well Siri will work on the 4S.

Whether they are uneducated users (which there will be many of) who think it's the exact same on the 4S, or somewhat educated users (which there will also be many of) who think it'll be similar but a bit better, they won't walk away impressed and it's human nature to assume that's how it's going to work on the 4S or maybe just "a bit better".

We're talking problems with the App Store version like slowness, inaccuracy, bad with background noise, etc., etc., things the Siri on 4S aren't supposed to suffer from.

How you can make such un-informed arguments is beyond funny.

Who knows but Apple never said it wasn't capable of running it.

I don't justify Apple's actions if they're wrong but what I find strange is that you think it's wrong that Apple only released Siri for the iPhone 4S when they spent over a year and a half developing and improving it? That's just ridiculous. You wouldn't see Samsung do that either.

What on earth are you quoting that for? Everything I said in that post was correct and it was about Siri on the App Store, not Siri on the iPhone 4.

What on earth are you quoting that for? Everything I said in that post was correct (to my knowledge) and it was about Siri on the App Store, not Siri on the iPhone 4.
Just because "to your knowledge" you think it's correct, it doesn't make it factual correct information.

All I'm saying is this...

From the beginning of this post, I said... "Apple being Apple" - I'm not surprised that they would do something like this, because it's what they do best.

1) Some users might mistake (App Store) Siri for (4S) Siri and think it's not so great, and it might get negative reviews. (As has been said by another forum member.)
2) Some users might download it on their current iPhone in order to test it and see if they want to buy the 4S for the feature or might download the App instead of upgrading. And it'll run like pff.
3) Some users might pass on the 4S and settle for (App Store) Siri and be unimpressed.

Blah, blah... you get the picture.
Siri is clearly capable of working on the iPhone 4, but Apple won't allow that so they can raise iPhone 4S sales, forcing people to upgrade from the 4 to the 4S which in our terms is a "sidegrade" at best.

Yes, it has a better camera, better processor, but SIRI is nothing revolutionary that the 4 can't handle. In the Apple keynote, they saved the "best for last" which happened to be Siri ( An app already capable of running on the iPhone 4 )

To me, the way they rob their customers by taking away features that they can currently run on their existing hardware is wrong. It's not the first time they've done it, and I'm sure it won't be their last, it's Apple being Apple.
