[Business Insider] Apple Has Already Killed The Original Siri App - Page 10

Who knows but Apple never said it wasn't capable of running it.

I don't justify Apple's actions if they're wrong but what I find strange is that you think it's wrong that Apple only released Siri for the iPhone 4S when they spent over a year and a half developing and improving it? That's just ridiculous. You wouldn't see Samsung do that either.

What on earth are you quoting that for? Everything I said in that post was correct and it was about Siri on the App Store, not Siri on the iPhone 4.

Uh? It enabled use of bluetooth, it didn't give it a physical chip...?
It was in the conference. Dont rember the wording but something like.

- Thanks to the A5 Chip
- Is able to because of A5

All I'm saying is this...

From the beginning of this post, I said... "Apple being Apple" - I'm not surprised that they would do something like this, because it's what they do best.

Siri is clearly capable of working on the iPhone 4, but Apple won't allow that so they can raise iPhone 4S sales, forcing people to upgrade from the 4 to the 4S which in our terms is a "sidegrade" at best.

Yes, it has a better camera, better processor, but SIRI is nothing revolutionary that the 4 can't handle. In the Apple keynote, they saved the "best for last" which happened to be Siri ( An app already capable of running on the iPhone 4 )

To me, the way they rob their customers by taking away features that they can currently run on their existing hardware is wrong. It's not the first time they've done it, and I'm sure it won't be their last, it's Apple being Apple.
Why exactly do you think it's wrong for Apple to use this feature only for the iPhone 4S? I'm sure they've put a lot of time, effort, and money into developing and improving Siri to be really, really good. Why shouldn't they use it to promote the 4S? Plus, Siri is only in beta right now and having all the iPhone 4 users using it would destroy it.

Do you really think if Samsung released a brilliant new software feature for the Samsung Galaxy S III that they spent a year or two working on, that they would put it on the S II and S I for FREE? I sure don't.

Mmm, I watched the Keynote and I don't remember that. It's possible it was said, but Apple hasn't specifically said that it requires the A5. They may have hinted towards it, but not actually said it.

I love you. Seriously. Every post you make insults OCN or one of its members directly. And this post specifically I chose to use against you. In your first sentence you talk about labeling you as a fanboy; and just two sentences later you label all of OCN as Android fanboys.
Not to mention your signature, its basically a note saying "Hey, I know I'm trolling don't bother telling me I'm a troll cause I already know."

I know you didn't read this post - your too busy being self absorbed in your "I'm going to stand righteous and defend the mighty Apple hill game." And you glanced over it seeing the word troll - and left for someone you could actually attack.

Notice, in this post I haven't attacked Apple, nor have I directly shown affection for Android, I am make this post unbiased in that regard. I personally prefer the Android operating system because it WORKS FOR ME. If you prefer the iOS platform, and it works for you - no harm, no foul. And, if you are the smaller percentage who uses WinMO, and it works for you - great. But please, don't go attacking other people on an ENTHUSIAST forum for being enthusiasts about the products they enjoy, and then ask for some kind of exclusive right just for you because you happen to be an Apple enthusiast.

Seriously, its like any normal Windows troll or Apple troll going on to an Apple or Windows forum (respectively) and making an account just to crap on their natural "opposition" - GET A LIFE.

I don't think ForumViewer was actually saying all of OCN drink "Android Koolaid", I read it as referring to the guy he was replying to. There's nothing wrong with going on a windows forum and debating technology and arguing for Apple, and so on. To "troll" them intentionally, is another story.

I know he wasn't referencing every single individual on OCN. He referenced OCN as a whole. He should be more specific if hes going to blatantly attack people. Notice I don't attack you over your defensive posts in favor of Apple - you know your an enthusiast, and that the other members of this forum are also enthusiasts. You don't ask for some kind of holy sanction because you preach the word of Apple. He does. You also don't outright attack members of the forum or the forum as a whole for their views or the products they enjoy. In other words, you typically rebutted Apple hate in the posts I've seen with technical information or a legitimate statement; he rebuts posts by directly attacking people using the same garbage logic most people use when dispensing Apple hate.

There is a large difference between the two of you as community members. I used to just ignore his posts but somehow, recently they have REALLY started to get under my skin.
(Hes finally winning at trolling me, I know - that is exactly what trolls are after, some kind of raise out of anyone, attention of any kind.)

So lets see here:

1. Siri was developed by a 3rd party company before the iPhone 4S came out, meaning that it was developed for the iPhone 4 (I believe, but the point is it worked before the 4S).

2. At that time, it was a free app. Apple bought it and it remained a free app.

3. The iPhone 4S comes with a better version of the app that supposedly won't run as well on the older hardware.

4. The non-4S version of the app has now been pulled. Now the only version of the app is on the iPhone 4S.

So it went from being a free app available on the iPhone 4 to an iPhone 4S exclusive app. How can this be justified in anyone's eyes? They are screwing over their customers for profit no matter how you spin it. There is absolutely NO good reason to pull it from the store. Saying it won't run as well on the 4 is not a good argument, because THAT IS WHERE IT WAS FIRST MADE. Besides, its not like there can't be a version for the 4 and a version for the 4S.

Saying people "will get confused" is a terrible argument as well. Apple has lots and lots of resources available. Surely they could figure out a way to solve this "problem." They are one of the greatest marketing companies in the world, after all.

And also, the "full" 4S version of Siri has been hacked onto an iPhone 4, so its not like they can't run it. It is 100% for product differentiation, which would not be such a bad thing if it wasn't for the fact that it was a free app on the iPhon 4 first.

What are they being screwed out of, exactly? It was a free service. You can't be screwed out of something you never owned. They bought the company for the technology, and they gave legacy users a break and let them use there voice processing servers for free. Are they supposed to keep paying to keep servers online without compensation? Would you be perfectly okay with it if the developers shut down the servers and then Apple decided to buy them?

If someone gives you a free lunch for a year, but then the next year decides to start charging you for them, you didn't get screwed out of anything. Just because you feel entitled to something, doesn't mean you actually are

I see where your coming from but you have to realise that it really wasn't available on the App Store first. What was available, was an app that was dumbed down to work on even the iPhone 3G. Apple has put about a year and a half or more of work into developing the version on the 4S, and they certainly aren't about to give that away for free. They want to use it as a selling point for their new phone.

You could argue that the free app should've remained on the App Store, but ultimately Apple doesn't want any confusion. (Let's not forget who we're talking about here, Apple's all about simplicity, even for the most technologically illiterate.)

There's absolutely no gain for Apple in keeping the version of Siri on the App Store, in fact they'd have to pay money (although I've no idea how much) to maintain the services the App uses. They don't want people "settling" for the Siri on the App Store, and nor do they want them using it to get an idea of how well Siri on the 4S might work, or confusing the two.

You might say they could change the name, yet news everywhere would report that it's been reintroduced as "such and such". And I'd guarantee you that the complaint in these threads would be "Apple just renamed it and put it on the 4S as a new feature".
