*edit* Not that it isn't a great phone, but the iPhone 4 isn't that different. Maybe lots of 3GS users upgrading.

Sigh... can we stop this now?

The iPhone 4 isn't anywhere near as powerful as the 4S. The latter is better in every regard and significantly so.

Awesome.

BTT: Not surprising the 4S is getting more preorders. I'm assuming a majority of these customers still have the iPhone 3G/3Gs and will want to upgrade.

iOS 5 will finally improve the experience of getting things onto your iPhone.

(this was a strategic move, so that record labels would actually allow you to buy music digitally through iTunes, remember there was a time when record labels were trying to roll their own system and Napster ruled.)

A lot of 3GS owners are getting a major upgrade.

Its unfortunate that what generation of phone you get is dictated by when you signed your contract.

/off topic

Cellphones in Canada are a mortgage compared to the US

3-year plans are the only way to get a flagship phone for 149.99/199.99 and on those plans, the required ~1gb data plans run about $50/mo without text/caller id/voicemail or early evenings.

I still have a year before i'm free to be enslaved again, and my "upgrade" credit (haven't gotten a phone from Rogers in 5 years of service) is that i can get $100 off an unsubsidized phone if i sign a new 3-year contract.

I'm running randomrom on my Epic, and ran rooted roms on my evo. Plus I carry extra battery.

However I maintain that only an idiot would think its better to have to jump through hoops to get the phone to last a long day, rather than having a OOBE, of "hey it works great!"

So going from a single core processor to a dual core now is considered slight? I remember when AMD came out with the Athlon X2 and gamers everywhere were calling it God send. iPhone 4S has significant hardware improvements, just not much in comparison with other phones, proving the age old adage that experience is everything. It is undeniably true that there are more technologically advanced phones, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters to the general consumer populace is that their perceived experience of iPhones are that they are always easy to use and are great phones and they will keep going with what they are comfortable with.

Google may have a larger mobile OS market share, more carriers, and more manufacturers, but Apple had the huge advantage of setting the experience for the market. Unless Apple has a huge stumble, people will still continue to stay with iPhone or move over to iPhone due to this perceived consistent experience and the customer experience from the company itself.

Again, root and customize.

And IMO nothing beats traditional drag-and-drop for file management. Syncing through iTunes wasn't that bad when I had an iPhone, but one glaring flaw was that it doesn't support syncing in multiple machines - I had my entire library erased when it was plugged to a friend's PC without me knowing it lol.

Sure there are alternatives to iTunes and drag-and-drop is possible, but then again it will take time to set up. I could probably do it though if I still have an iDevice, as well as other jailbreaking options.

I completely agree. Despite my Incredible having a removable battery and my present iPhone 4 having a non-removable one, I have always had battery issues with my Incredible and none with my iPhone thus far.

Having no problems with my Bionic. I had a choice of going with an Iphone 4S or this, but I chose the Bionic. I hate Itunes with a passion.
