The most secure web host?

Ok so I'm sure this is a hot topic in the web design field... Let me start by saying I am a web designer with high standards. Fortunately I am only hosting a few domains right now so I can easily transfer them if I need to.

Right now I am hosting with ixwebhosting. I'm very satisfied with their service (they have top notch support as far as I'd say). It is also very easy to view what websites I own, what hosting packages I own, etc.

What I'm wondering is, is there a certain web host that I can feel secure hosting all my domains with? 30 years when I retire will they still be around doing the same thing? What I want basically is a host that I know is going to be around 30 years from now & doing the same thing they're doing now.

Sure a hosting company can say that they won't go out of business but how do I know that they won't?

Concerned web designer,
Joe

Oh, by "secure," you meant, financially secure? I understand the concern, but if you're using shared hosting, it really shouldn't be a big deal . You would know long before the company went out of business, and you would have plenty of time to move to the next best host at the time.

I have hosting and domains scattered all over the place. I would say that GoDaddy is a pretty safe bet right now for shared hosting.

Ok. I guess I was more concerned with the domain and also not getting screwed one day. I will read up more on hosting

The domain? You can host the domain anywhere you'd like. It takes a couple of minutes to change the nameservers and a couple of days to take effect. You will never lose your domain. If a registrar goes under, the domains move to another registrar. It would never affect you. Domains are not "hosted", they're just pointed.

I used to read Gourley's stuff, so I can vouch for the author. I haven't read this specific book, but if it's anything like his other books, you will learn a lot!

This looks like it gets into the protocols itself, which will give you a general sense of how everything is connected. I would read this over that "DNS For Dummies" book. You could probably glean as much from reading a wiki on DNS for that.
