If they are allowed you may just have to register the device with your network admins. That's how it was with my school. I had PS3, PC, and a wireless router all hooked up in my room.

Ask your IT services department if you're allowed and if so, if they can give you a hand? A lot of places are normally more than happy to give you a hand so long as you stick to their rules.

I know at my current Uni we're allowed to plug whatever we like into our ports so long as we don't break the AUP (so no endangering other people's service) but we had to register any MAC addresses on the University IT Services website.
