vaccuum box?

Thread Starter
an idea occured to me the other day:

"a vaccuum would prevent condensation buildup and sub-ambient components."

would this work if a case could be sealed properly?

No.
1) HDDs need to air to operate.
2) Convection and conduction provide MUCH better heat transportation than radiation. You would need a water block on every single heat producing components.
3) The tubing and seals would burst due to vaccuum.

yea it would, but how would you cool it?
not with air, you'd have to water cool and use tubes (prolly PVC) that could withstand the vacuum.

i was thinking a tec or peltier since i posted it in the TEC Peltier section some type of 'sub ambient cooling'

o my bad, i guess i assumed you were gunna use a water chiller or something.
but yea this could work, but you will still need proper watercooling for the TECs or else their usless.

you'd also need a block for each component just as DuckieHo mentioned.
but it's do-able

You don't have to make it vacuum. Just seal it from the outside air and dry the inside. Vacuum chamber is something that requires high maintenance and usually lives in labs.

...and how will you cool the hotside of the TEC?

You run into the same issues.

Vaccuum sealing a chamber while still trying to remove heat drives up complexity when simple insulation would do the same thing.

ok so i see... by limiting the amount of fresh air coming in(by closing the case and not neccessarily vaccuum sealing it), you would eliminate most of the moisture, and then you could water cool the TEC cooler with a rad outside. and i guess maybe put some silica packets(like found in shoe boxes) to remove what little moisture there might be

you could throw everything in a sealed case and to get the moisture out....use some sillicone packets. You know...the ones that come in your shoe boxes when you buy new shoes and stuff. They suck moisture out of the air.

all you'd have to do is prime the case for like a day or so and then you'd be good. But that still won't stop condensation from building on the outside of the case.
