Taco Bell for World Hunger - Page 2

Maybe if they had a policy to match what their customers are contributing.

Blindly trusting a for-profit organization to handle money towards something other than profit is outside of my comfort zone.

While I agree this is a good thing they're doing, I also have to disagree because of location purposes.

I live in Joplin, and I'm sure if you watch the news, or watched the news at the time our town was demolished by one of the top 10 most deadly tornadoes in U.S. history. Now when I went to Taco Bell, and they asked me for a dollar to fight world hunger, shouldn't they be accepting donations to help the people who lost their homes? Helping people in the community get back on their feet? Yeah, we've come a long way since the night the tornado hit, but were FAR from getting back on our feet. As much money as Taco Bell has made/makes in my area, you would think they would do more to help their OWN community instead of trying to help everyone else but the people that keep some of their locations flowing with money.

I don't know, it just pissed me off quite a bit. Could just be me, but that's just my 2cents. It is a good cause, I just needed to rant that. Haha, sorry. xD

No it's not...but why throw in the bin perfectly good food? sandwich shops here throw perfectly good food out, as do supermarkets. / probably all shops. the planet produces more food than it consumes. how can you get obesity on one side and hunger on the other?

bit political but meh

According to Taco Bell website

Does Yum! Brands or any of its restaurants (KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silver's and A&W Restaurants) receive any of my donation?

No. Your donation goes directly to feeding people who would otherwise be faced with the possibility of not having anything to eat. Funds donated by customers during World Hunger Relief will directly support the greatest needs of WFP's food relief programs in the least developed nations around the world. The Yum! Foundation will make a matching contribution of all consumer funds raised during World Hunger Relief to cover WFP's global administrative fees (up to $1.5 million).

I understand what you are saying and I am with you, but we do have to understand most of it is health regulations not just simply throwing away food. Food sitting for a certain amount of time cannot be served. I worked for McDonalds for 5 years when I was younger. What they did instead was donating the food that had not been cooked yet. So when it go to where ever it was going it was cooked there. The problem with food wasting usually results mostly on the management and the workers and in some cases the customers. For the workers and management is cooking to much food at one time and not paying attention to the amount of customers that are coming through. Some customers will bring back a whole burger just because the onion was left on when it could just have been picked off and you can;t reserve it or give it away. (in some cases like allergies could be a legit reason) but I think you get what I am saying.

This is a hard call and I understand what you are saying, but we also have to keep in mind that just because it says Taco Bell doesn't mean it is owned by Taco Bell it could be a franchise and the owner of that franchise is no way like a rich corporation. But that is a really hard call and many scenarios. That is like when the B.P. had that oil spill. Everyone wanted to boycott B.P. gas station but most people didn't realize that most of the companies were locally owned and not owned by B.P. and it was hurting local business. BTW sorry for all that you went through.

During my cheat meals, I occasionally do hit up the Bell, but it's very very rare. I also used to work there...

I'm never going to donate money to for-profit organizations for the sole reason that it's NEVER 100% of the money going to these causes. I'm betting they slice off a nice chunk to go towards "inner development" or some BS like that. I saw someone post that "contributions matching" notice, but it didn't state how much money was going to be for the cause (anyone else think < 25%)?

I do not think you have proof that the money is not all going to the charities and just because it is a corporation does not mean they are whoring the money. All one has to do is go to the IRS and it will show what money was earned. Can't we be just a little optimistic? Not everyone thing in this world is out there to get somebody. They are also matching the donations.

Why do you have to do it via Taco Bell and do it with Red Cross or some nonprofit instead?
