Help Settling a debate?

Hello! I am currently debating with a few of my friends over what is better; two MSI R6870 Hawk Radeon HD 6870s or an MSI Lightning 6970? In your opinions, which is better?

Crossfire 6870 will be faster in CF supported games (most games ) games but if there are driver incompatibilities then you will have slower performance than a regular 6970. There is also an issue of VRAM at high resolutions because when 6870 run out of VRAM you will have reduced performance but I cant say how much because I never tried running 6870 CF

whichever is cheaper? Any multiGPU setup (in this case, they are faster), has it's downfalls: potential no driver support for newer games (can be palliated by CAPS in AMD-land), higher power consumption (relative to similar performing, current gen, single GPU solutions).

Though they have great potential to be faster.

To be fair 2 HD6870 will be faster than a HD6970 in most games today. I think that lack of support is not as big an issue as it once was. If it was me I'd go for a single 6970 purely because I would still be able to upgrade later on.
