2600k, 16gb Ram, Z68 extreme4 - help a noob OC!!!

Thread Starter
HI all. I have posted and read similar threads, but none seemed to pertain to my specific setup. I'm hoping some new members here or exisitng members have a similar setup and can help me. I have already followed Munaim's guide for determining LLC. My rig appears to require LLC2 to keep my vcore setting yet keep me from spiking. NOt sure if that woudl change though with each OC I try? That is my first question.

So now what? I have been told that 16gb is where my problem is...yet some people seem to have no issue.

My mobo has alot of AUTO features and I'm not sure what to try and what to leave alone. I recently formatted my HD and set everything in the BIOS back to stock. If I can continue to use LLC2...I'm ready for my next step in OC'ing my 2600k...which is?

I'm a noob at this so if anyone has any suggestions pertaining to my specific setup...I'm all ears! I have had my sig rig for awhile now and have still been unable to OC.

Help!!!

You probably want to set everything to manual well at least everything relating to CPU, NB, or RAM. Then try slowly bringing up the FSB and if necessary raise the voltage by one increment at a time. Also I believe you want to turn off speedstep and C1E on the CPU as just with amd turbo core they can wreak havoc on an OC. because they try to adjust the multiplier and Vcore based on load. most of the time you end up running full frequency even at idle which means that you want to have a high enough Vcore to keep it stable until the LLC kicks in.

Thanks for the comments DSP..but I think with the 2600k I want to raise my multi...not my FSB....

I could be wrong though...

Not sure what you mean, are you saying you cannot overclock at all? 16gb of ram can certainly have an effect. And to answer your question, LLC should probably stay the same. I have mine at 2 and i never touch it.

Set short and long duration power limits to 250 also core current limit to 250
Set your ram to your default specs manually
CPU pll to 1.709 or around there
Start at x40 multi and work your way up
Try start off around 1.3v and +/- depending on what u need

Hope that helps

I have an Asrock board as well.
Waht freq are you aiming at?
up to 48x:
Short time duration 250
Long time duration 250
CPU max current 250
LLC level 2
CPU PLL @1.709
Try with a + 0.030 offset. If it boots all the way through windows, run prime95 for 15 min. If temps are acceptable (below 70c) and you get neither error or BSOD, go back in the BIOS and change offset to +0.025 and so on until you reach unstability. Then bump offset by 0.010 and do 2/3 hours prime run. If not stable, but temps acceptable, bump offsset voltage one notch.
