Picking between these is killing me. looking at cross-firing 2 ASUS EAH6950's 4gb for $540 or getting an ASUS MATRIX GTX580 1.5gb for $530 will be doing 3d with 1 single monitor to start then next year i'll be doing 3 monitor setup, 1920x1080 and may occasionally hookup to my 60 tv. going on a maximus iv mobo 800watt psu 8gb gskill ram

There is more power in the XFIRE 6950s, however if you get the 580 you can sli another at a later date.

how long do you think xfire 6950s will go for before needing to upgrade?

The 6950 CF will be faster but the GTX 580 is better for 3D gaming and has more hopes for upgrading (

the 6950's look to provide more vram, 4 vs. 1.5 and remember when you Xfire or SLI a pair of cards it does not double your vram.

I say 6950 unless you want to spring for a 3gb. GTX580

My opinion is go for the 580 and have the option to add another later.. if you go the radeon route you need to completely reinvest for an upgrade.

Also the 580 be easier to manage from a thermal standpoint.

i see i was under the impression the vram would double if you did sli or xfire. a 3gb 580 sounds nice but i'm sure the cost is insane

It is around $550. I say go with the 580 since it is more stable to use 1 card over 2, plus you can always SLI later and create something a lot more powerful than crossfire 6950's.

id say go for the 580, and when you get 3 monitors get another 580. make sure to get the 3gb versions though or else you won't have enough vram for 3 monitors
