$600 Budget Build for a friend

Thread Starter
My friend set me with a challenge as he admires my own rig . To build a gaming pc (pure gaming, no editing or multithreaded apps like that) at $600. Now, im having difficulty choosing components as im kind of a noob at this myself so maybe you fabulously awesome people of OCN could help me out?For now lets, include Windows 7 but not a keyboard, mouse, monitor, or speakers. He doesn't really know what would be the most graphically intense game he'd play so let's say it'll be BF3. Doesn't really need to play it maxed out (I don't expect it to at this price) just well. No watercooling, no SSD. Thanks

Hmmph, do you need a box to put the parts in or can we just connect everything on a table top?

Also, do the parts have to be new or is used okay?

Are either of you a student? That would make win7 far cheaper for you and vastly improve this budget build

Also is a microcenter close enough by for you to visit?

Just a heads up that maaaaay be useful: he's not sure if he can even get this. Depending on how good these parts turnout may make or break this situation. He can probably get it around the holiday season so there isn't really a rush but just wanna know the best possible parts now for this price..

Basically if you or anyone who is willing to help, has a .edu email address your eligible to buy win7 for $30.

Fair enough

i5 2500k @ microcenter
+
GA-Z68MA @ microcenter (add to cart to see combo savings) comes out to $261 after MIR with tax

a decent 500w-650w psu (something like this one: Antec Neo Eco 620w $35 AMIR)

with a Samsung f3 1tb HDD $60(these can be found for $50 if you wait for it to go on sale),

Keep your eyes open for recertified GFX cards and save a bundle this would be nice:

Fair enough

i5 2500k,

ASRock z68 $105 motherboard or whatever is cheap,

a decent 500w-650w psu (something like this one: Antec Neo Eco 620w)

with a Samsung f3 1tb HDD,

and an NZXT source 210 $40

Keep your eyes open for recertified GFX cards and save a bundle this would be nice:
