BF3 Worthy?

Thread Starter
I've played the BF3 Beta extensively with relatively good framerates (60FPS) however, that was windowed mode because I was too lazy to change it.

I'm wondering if I'll my rig will be able to play 1080p on atleast medium without too bad of framerates.

If not, what should I change about my build? I know my video card is outdated, but its a trooper.

Thanks

Athlon X4 and 9800 GT in BF3 on 1920x1080?

Umm, count on a mix of Medium/Low and AA disabled.

Your system seems pretty balanced to be honest. If you were going to upgrade your GPU, your CPU would potentially bottleneck it.

I wouldn't upgrade on such an old platform, I'd save up some cash and replace the motherboard, CPU and GPU. Pretty sure your RAM, PSU etc... will be alright for now.

Anyway this is just what I'd personally do. If you want an increase, with your CPU, I wouldn't go any higher than a GTX 460 1gb.

Can't really give you much more information on that, since you haven't listed a budget, I'd go for the mostly new rig option. Or wait it out until kepler/ivy.

NO! get a job and build a new rig, after all this is a game you're most likely going to invest hundreds of hours in.

For that old 9800, AA will be the biggest performance hit. Disable AA, stuick to Low / Med, could possibly get away with all med. off HBAO / Blur.

9800gt will struggle... my 4890 did at low settings... Grab a gtx 460 or 6850. Look at the open box and recertified deals at newegg. I saw a gtx 460 for 105 and a gtx 560 ti for 180.

Dude, its "alt+enter" to toggle between full screen and window.

I would, as a start get a new video card. My gtx465 barely cuts it. I don't think 2 9800gx2's would really even get great results from the game.

Bulldozer is dropping tommorow or the next day and within about 3 weeks I would guess the price of the x6 thubans will take a turn for the 115.00 mark.

Specifically, I would pick up a gtx560 or better, and grab for a better processor motherboard when you can afford it.

Thank you for the replies!

So getting a totally new rig would be the best option?

"I was able to get average frame rates in the mid-30s with it at much lower (1680x1050, Low quality) and would have likely preferred to drop another resolution setting to get a smoother FPS experience. But obviously, even though we were able to achieve some 30+ frame rates, the image quality does take a noticeable dive at the Low settings."
