Didn't want to overwhelm you with too much info in one post; long story short, for 1080p in BF3, a HD 6970 would be the ideal selection (maintaining 60FPS with high image quality): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127581

Thanks for your replies.

Can someone recommend me a build that would allow me to play, say medium at 1080p with relatively good framerates

Provided I already have a case, psu, monitor, os etc that AFAIK don't need to be channged.

Umm, count on a mix of Medium/Low and AA disabled.
Nah, try low with 1024x768.

Thats funny actually because I played 1280 x 1024 on medium with relatively good frame rates, never dipping below 30 FPS.

Stop hiding behind the fact that you need to upgrade you graphics card!

Just bite the bullet and get a new system - you will love it once u buy it.

Your AMD will bottleneck if u upgrade your GPU - so you need a new CPU.

Get an i5 2500k and a GTX 570 - you can get packages for under $1300.

I'm well aware I need to upgrade basically my motherboard, cpu, and gpu.
However, I'm not sure which route is the best to go.

I'm pretty much have the exact same rig that you have. I was able to run BF3 in 1680x1050 with everything turned off but there was just way to much latency, especially on the large scale conquest map they released towards the end of beta.

I'm building an entire new machine. I've had a good run with this one but I've just given into the fact it's not good enough anymore.

Eh, for full game you'll probably going to be on medium to low with under 30FPS with 1080p. I would really look to upgrade CPU and board to Bulldozer or even Intel.
