Eww yuck. I trod in something nasty,

Oh it was your build.

Jokes

Seriously though 1024@30FPS may as well play xbox

A build like mine only just pulls off BF3 on medium 1080p 60FPS min.

Go for either sandy/bulldozer with a 6970 and 8GB RAM.

Sorry again my joke was low no offence intended

Min with no dx11. Grab a cheap used 460 1gb man!

The rest of your system should be fine. If you think otherwise overclock your CPU.

With that CPU at that clock the 9800GT is probably the best you can do without being bottlenecked. Don't bother upgrading unless you can significantly overclock that CPU.

I'm sorry but I sense a bunch of elitism bull**** in this thread.

I was pulling 35-45 fps in the BF3 beta with my sig rig at 1080p on all high settings with AA off, motion blur at 50, and ambient occlusion at SSAO.

The OP is asking what he needs to play the game comfortably. He isn't asking to max it out.

If the OP gets a GTX460 1GB, HD6790, or HD6850 he will be able to play on medium/high settings at 1920x1080 with a constant frame rate above 30 fps, as long as he leaves AA off.

Hit it on the dime here. I'm not looking to play 1080p, ultra high at 1 million fps.

I want to play comfortably at 1080p on around medium. What kind'ave of GPU/CPU/MOBO combo would I need for that?

I wouldn't upgrade on such an old platform, I'd save up some cash and replace the motherboard, CPU and GPU. Pretty sure your RAM, PSU etc... will be alright for now.

Anyway this is just what I'd personally do. If you want an increase, with your CPU, I wouldn't go any higher than a GTX 460 1gb.

No, his system isn't balanced for BF3. His video card is far too weak and is what is severely holding him back. The 9800GT is far from the best his processor can handle for BF3. BF3 is extremely demanding on the video card. So Min, don't bother posting if you don't know what you're talking about.

For medium at 1080p? You're looking at a GTX 460 to GTX 560 Ti, HD 6850 to HD 6950. Should be doable if you simply upgrade your video card.

Yeah but, your system is better than his~ and that performance isn't even all that hot. My 295 did better than that~ and even it suffered. He's not going to do more than 40 frames max, and it will dip under 30 easily on medium during certain points.
