Seriously though 1024@30FPS may as well play xbox

A build like mine only just pulls off BF3 on medium 1080p 60FPS min.

Go for either sandy/bulldozer with a 6970 and 8GB RAM.

Sorry again my joke was low no offence intended
Ew medium settings? whos build are you lafting at??

Are you trying to imply the 9800GT is insufficient for BF3? Because that's absolutely falsen

Sorry to break it to you but his Athlon at 2.9ghz is going to bottleneck a GTX 460/HD6850.

The 9800GT is the best GPU for his processor before bottlenecks.

You're just completely ignorant about the situation if you think a 2.9ghz Athlon's going to run a GTX 460 to it's full potential.

Here's a thread with a guy complaining about his Athlon II at 3.2 ghz bottlenecking his 460.

Can you just stop posting, you're obviously ignorant and wrong about the situation and contributed nothing but misinformation to this thread.

I think u can see abit more, its the minimums that you notice. I think someone said u need about 30 - 40 for smooth running, 60 nice if u got the money.

i think what everyone is trying to say is, you need to balance you cpu and you gpu. its not worth just upgrading the card because your cpu will bottleneck it.

A good question is how much do you have to spend or how much do you want to spend?

That will give anyone an idea on the best solutions for you.

I'm not sure what i would do if i were you as i've never had an amd chip, but the 6950 is a great card, and i've read the 560 ti is good as well not sure how the 560 ti does in BF3 though.

I just watched the trailor --- (not played BF since 2142) looks good

Everything you said is flat out wrong.

Minitron thinks a 9800GT is sufficient to play BF3 @ medium @ 1080p - which is what the OP wants to do

Minitron linked to a thread about someone complaining about a DUAL CORE processor in an (this) argument about a game that is quad threaded

Serious question: Are you actually being serious or are you clueless?

Wrong thread, my mistake.

That 2.9ghz AMD still bottlenecks that 460.

Had a Phenom II at 3.0 ghz and a 460, there was a significant bottleneck that disappeared after I got the i5.

A 9800GT WILL NOT cut it in BF3. Did you not see the link?

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphic...tion-Day-1/Mor

LOW settings 1680x1050
34 fps AVG

You really think a 9800GT is going to be playable at (at least) medium settings at 1080p - a resolution with 17% more pixels? Not going to happen. Not to mention that test was on Metro. Caspian Border is more demanding.

We're talking about BF3 here, not the games you tested. The Athlon X4 will be sufficient enough to drive a GTX 460 in BF3 at 1080p. If gets a video card any lower than a GTX 460 that video card will be the bottleneck in BF3.

BF3 = GPU intensive.

I said my mistake wrong thread; it can play it on low blah blah.

The Athlon will be a significant bottleneck for that 460 at 2.9 ghz.

I'd say its both GPU and CPU intensive. During beta, I had my cpu at 100% and that was just the game, no background apps or anything. And the both GPUs at 99%.

Thread Starter
I'd be willing to spend the amount it would take for me to be running at say medium, 1080p, good framerates. Nothing over the top, as I'm not a ultra hardcore gamer :/

Any ideas what I should get? I was thinking to not go the FX-**** route as I heard Bulldozer has proven to be a failure almost.
