Brand new, Bestbuy, Maryland

I played ArmA 2 Project reality for about 10 minutes, the card didn't go over 72, That's a freaking miracle. I guess the thermal grease was the problem. Going to do more tests tomorrow, thanks guys

Sounds like it was a returned card with an issue and they put it back on the shelf as a 460.

Sounds dodgy.

Glad it's working now though

Maybe it was returned for high temps?

Clearly his brother bought an XFX 6950 (read the first post). And when he gave the OP his old card (GTX 470), he just threw it into the XFX 6950's box. That's why you're thinking its PNY or XFX.

The card CLEARLY shows that its a PNY GTX470, and GPUz confirms. Enjoy your new card. Your brother really isn't very smart, as that was a side grade more than anything else.

If you're still having heat issues, you'll definitely need that $85 aftermarket cooler. GF100 (GTX470 and 480's) run very very hot with the reference cooler. Only way to cool them down is reseat with better TIM (you've already done), deafen yourself with 100% fan speed, or go into a custom cooler (air or a water loop). Going to a custom cooler will lower your temperatures a good 20*C or better under load.

Actually the story is true, we bought a xfx 460, and got a psy 470. He actually has a visiontek 6950.

Its because you got it from Best(Worst) Buy, plenty of people I know have had this happen, myself included. One of my mom's friends got a $800 laptop when she bought a $300 one, the employees take the stuff out of the box(She went back to them because she wanted to do the right thing and the employees told her to keep it and not tell anyone so they wouldn't get fired, they were bored so they opened some of the boxes.) and got them mixed up.
Thats why I buy online, the stuff is in a warehouse away from bored employees.
