Need some decent Headphones.

So I was one of the lucky ones that managed to jump on the $50 BestBuy Titanium HD sale and I want to see what dedicated sound cards are all about. I currently have a set of Playtronic Gamecon 777's and am not sure if I should get a new set or not.

My purpose is to see what I'm missing when it comes to dedicated sound cards. I don't really game but I want to hear the difference in the music/movie world. Any suggestions.

I would like to spend less then $50. Also wouldn't mind have an built in mic.

You aren't going to find anything under $50 with a microphone that sounds great. I would recommend a Zalman Clip on Mic or a Logitech desk mic, both for under $10.

What type of music do you listen to?

As a start, these are some pretty popular headphones at the $50 mark:

The slightly more high end version of the headphones above:

You did not mention that you will be gaming with these headphones, so I chose headphones which are more suited to music than gaming. The only one here with a decent soundstage for gaming is the HA-RX700 (and its big brother), but the rest are mainly music headphones, and do not really have directional soundstage.

I'm in to everything really. I avoid country as much as possible though. I tend to listen to metal/rock more often than other genres. I do ocassionally listen to Pop/R&B and even a bit of classical from time to time.

Not having a mic is not a breaking point it would just be a nice bonus.

If I were you I would go with the A700 These are Refurb's but they come in the new box from what most people say. This site is solid for headphones. I know it's a little out of your budget but I hear there worth every penny. For a mix of music and games. Think I'm going to pick some up. If this is to far out of your range I would browse the site and see what other deals they have. The JVC ones posted above are awesome also.

Ya $90 is too much for me at the moment. I will probably pick up a set that comrad linked unless someone can suggest otherwise.

The RX700s would be a fine pair of headphones to start with.

Samson SR850s are a step above those providing nice bass. RH600s if you don't care for bass.

Choose either.

Ok. thanks for the pointers everyone. I will start doing some looking into those.

As far as bass goes I don't want over powering bass if that makes sense. I want nice strong great sounding bass that does rattle my brains (or ghetto car )
